  • What a great episode, the cops wanting to do it their way, and the FBI doing it the way it should be done!! The clash and the alliance, a great way to show conflict in the law enforecement, and the problem on the streets.

    • Lt. Evans: (believing that Playboy committed the latest murder) We all know he did it, agent.
: No, we don't. Lieutenant, you think I don't know how bad you want this guy? I was a uniform just like you. I saw a lot of cops go down. Before that I watched my father get shot. He was killed doing his job - a cop's job. So don't think I don't know.

    • Hotchner: Garcia, find out everything you can about the officers killed; see what they had in common besides their uniforms.
Garcia: Will do. But, I should warn you it will not be cake, because I have been on the phone with these guys all morning and pulling files from them has been like pulling molars.
      Hotchner: Is there a problem?
Garcia: You know, aside from the obvious grief for their fallen compadres and their fear of being used as target practice, I get the distinct impression from their crabby behavior they are none too pleased their boss is outsourcing this investigation to the FBI. So… be prepared to hit a blue wall of resistance.

    • Reid: Both incidents show an active understanding of police procedure.
Morgan: Which narrows it down to anybody who watches television.

    • Morgan: This is an unsub with something to prove.
Hotchner: And he's got the entire city on edge.
Prentiss: Kill those who "Protect and Serve," and no one feels safe.

    • Morgan: "For he today who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother." William Shakespeare

    Notes (1)

    • A.J. Cook was credited, but not appear, in this episode because she was on maternity leave.

    Trivia (3)

    • All the sergeants in this episode have their chevrons pointed down, which is the Commonwealth insignia for the rank of Sergeant, rather than pointing up.

    • In certain scenes, Commander Marks is wearing two different rank insignia on his uniform. He has sergeant stripes on his sleeves and the collar insignia of a Commander.

    • It wouldn't have been possible for the BAU members to have raided the house with a no-knock entry as they did. An anonymous tip wouldn't be enough probable cause for that type of entry, and there wasn't enough time to get any type of warrant, even for a knock-and-announce entry warrant that requires a lower standard of proof.

    Allusions (2)

    • At the end, when the unsub is in custody and being moved, the film turns to black-and-white, and Playboy pushes through the crowd and shoots the unsub. The remainder of the scene is stop-action footage with scenes of both the unsub and Playboy that resembled the news footage of Lee Harvey Oswald being killed by Jack Ruby while being transported during the aftermath of the Kennedy assassination in November 1963.

    • Sgt. Manny Rodriguez: He's too damn old. Overweight, overpriced (shakes his head) too damn old.
Officer Tom Kayser: What, so you're saying they should have kept Marion?

The two patrolman are referencing the controversial February 2008 trade of Shawn Marion by the Phoenix Suns for Miami Heat's Shaquille O'Neal. The two other players referenced, Amare Stoudemire and Steve Nash, also play for the Suns.
