  • show Description
  • Family is enough to drive anyone a little crazy. Children keep secrets from their parents so they won't upset them, dads leave for other women and moms try to run over dads with the car. Actually, that was the point when the Crumb family knew Mom was crazy. Estranged brothers Mitch (Fred Savage) and Jack Crumb (Eddie McClintock) reunite in their small hometown to deal with their mother Suzanne(Jane Curtin), who is being released from a psychiatric country club, Cedar Hill, and has yet to discover that her ex-husband Billy (William Devane) is about to have a baby with his new girlfriend. They have issues… major issues. Central to everything is the dynamic between these two brothers; Mitch is the prodigal son who is returning home after a failed Hollywood career, and Jack is the older brother who has stayed in the confines of their small New England town to run the family business. Together for the first time as adults, this family will have to stick by one another despite their combustible relationships. Elvis (Reginald Ballard) works at Silver Hill. The creator of Caroline in the City mines his own WASP family for comic gold that's smart, funny and surprising. Starring Fred Savage (The Wonder Years), William Devane (24 and Early Edition), and Jane Curtin (two-time Emmy Award winner for Kate & Allie, SNL, 3rd Rock from the Sun) and from the producers of Smallville and One Tree Hill comes an offbeat comedy everyone can relate to. 13 Episodes ordered for the 1st season from Touchstone Television in association with Tollin/Robbins Productions. It is taped at Universal Studios Hollywood.moreless

    • Jody: Alright, Mom, let's get you home. Maybe we'll stop for Ice Cream. Mitch: (to Jody) Wait, wait, wait! Wait a minute... "Maybe we'll stop for ice cream"? She just came down here with what we thought was a gun to "whack" our father, and you want to get her ice cream? Suzanne: You can come, too! Mitch: (shouting) This is not normal behavior!

    • Suzanne: (after the family comes home from the hospital) Maybe later I'll make us a chicken! Jody: Are you up to it? Suzanne: Yeah, might be fun. I haven't been allowed around knives for a while.

    • Jody: Uh, hey, Mom... Do you want any of your pills? It's been two hours. Mitch: Would you stop with the pills! She's doing great. Suzanne: That's because I'm on pills.

    • Suzanne: (talking about how Billy’s girlfriend Shelly looks like a chicken, at the OB/GYN office) It’s bad enough that [bleep] stole my husband, now she’s in there stealing my OB/GYN? Billy: She didn’t steal her! And Shelly does not look like a chicken. Suzanne: Oh, trust me, put her in a red and white bucket and people will eat her.

    • (answering the phone) Mitch: Stone House Grill, this is Mitch.

    • Music: "Don't Leave Home" by Dido is played at the end of this episode.

    • "Crumbs" is ABC's most-watched comedy series premiere in nearly 2-1/2 years - since 9/23/03. It is also the third-most-watched comedy debut on any network this season, behind only NBC's "My Name is Earl" and CBS' "Out of Practice."

    • The series debut of ABC's "Crumbs" outdrew NBC's "The Office" by 1.5 million viewers (11.8 million vs. 10.3 million). In its premiere "Crumbs" boosted the half-hour for ABC by 6.3 million viewers (11.8 million vs. 5.5 million) and by 89% in Adults 18-49 (3.6/9 vs. 1.9/5) over its average with regular programming in the time period this season.
