    • (Kevin has previously overheard Daria telling Jody and Mack about her parents' plans and how she was even more dismayed that that's where she gets her "genetic make-up") Kevin: And then she said her parents were trying to change her generic make-up! Brittany: They really should! I hate that stuff--it gives me hives!

    • Brittany: (on Daria) She looks normal--for her. Jane: Although, the clothing would disguise any electrodes below the neck.

    • Kevin: (on Daria) They did mental stuff to her. I can tell. Brittany: Nobody better try that on me! Jodie: Yeah.

    • (upon seeing that the new house rules written on stone tablets) Daria: Hey, does this mean we get to wander in the desert for forty years?

    • Helen: (reading) "Rule number one: Persistent questioning of parental judgment is punishable".

    Trivia (7)

    • when Daria picks up the Iliad off her stack of books you see underneath is another copy of The Iliad

    • When Quinn looks down at Daria after brushing Tommy off, the shot looks out of proportion.

    • When Daria was playing Monopoly with her parents, Jake rolled the dice and landed on Park Place, but the color of the property was red instead of blue, it went for $400 instead of $350, and Park Place with a hotel would cost $1500 in rent, not $1600. Also, Jake is playing with the bulldog piece, but there is no bulldog piece, only a Scottish terrier. Finally, the word "Monopoly" that appears in the center of the board typically is diagonal. (These are probably related to Parker Brothers copyright issues.)

    • Goof: When Mr. DeMartino lights his cigarette upside down, he uses a Zippo lighter. From the way he was holding the Zippo, he would have burnt his thumb, and not lit his cigarette.

    • During the grounding, Daria reads Herman Melville's Moby Dick, and tries to trick Quinn into reading Homer's The Illiad.

    Allusions (8)

    • Junior Wells Junior Wells was one of the great blues harmonica players. He was also known as the Godfather of the Blues.

    • Jake: Actually, I think somebody did say that...Jefferson, or somebody. Jake was correct for once. Thomas Jefferson was the one who said, "A government of laws, not of men."

    • The Illiad Daria tries to get Quinn to read The Iliad, which includes a character named Helen (she's the one everyone is fighting over). It also involves the death of one who is portrayed as a defender of justice (Hector). Quinn's comment about "now give me something I can read" is more relevant than it first appears. The Iliad was originally meant to be performed, not read, as it was created rather before written communication became a common mainstay.

    • Daria: When I play this rusty old horn my soul flys free as a bird. Daria's comment about her soul flying free as a bird may be a biblical reference. Although it's pretty common imagery, the earlier reference (about wandering in the desert) might indicate a connection. Specifically, with Psalm 124 "Our soul's escaped, as a bird out of the fowler's snare; The snare asunder broken is, and we escaped are."

    • Title Pun: The Big House The Big House is slang for jail.
