  • show Description
  • This animated comedy series is set in the Middle Ages and follows the title character, Dave, in his comedic adventures with his family (his sisters, Candy and Fang, and his Uncle, Oswidge) as they protect themselves and their family from a world of oddball foes. Dave himself combines strength with an appreciation of the finer things in life, including origami, bird watching, and even gourmet cooking.

    • Narrator: And so, our heroes defeat the muffin in an exciting battle, which we can't show you because it'd be much too expensive for a cheap show like this.

    • Dave: Lula, I know I couldn't get you out before, but now there is a sponge bath on the line!

    • Man: Sir, do you remember the muffin monster? Sprite: Naw, I came in after that scene.

    • Fang: You want foul? How about I bat your head into foul territory?

    • Sprite: I don't write the rules, I just enforce them. Dave: But your name is on the rule book.

    • Salesman: T-shirts! Get your "I Tried and Failed" t-shirts!

    • Dave: Is there anything in the enchanted forest that isn't enchanted? Sprite: Well, maybe that one rock over there. Rock: Nope, me too.

    • Dave: Time to cut a muffin! Lula: That sounds nasty for some reason.

    Notes (94)

    • Quasmir's real name is Herbert.

    • Annie Award winner on Storyboarding in an Animated Television Production Wendy Grieb - DISNEY'S DAVE THE BARBARIAN – "The Maddening Sprite of the Stump"

    • Lula's sister, Molly, can be seen briefly in the line-up of people trying to pull Lula out of the stump.

    • Castle Fall: Nothing.

    • Vilains: Muffin Monsters , Quasmir

    • Starting with this episode, every episode has a different castle fall scene as used as a couch gag and a blackboard gag in Matt Groening's The Simpsons.

    • The giant man-eating muffin and his brother would probably be referring to Bibidi and Babidi of Dragonball Z.

    • Walk-Ministrel: None
      A walk-ministrel is a spoof of a Walkman.

    Trivia (42)

    • ("Shrink Rap") When Quasmir is with his mom (after they make up) there is a shot of Quasmire's face. Look closely, his beard has gone from green to black. Then, there is a scene with Quasmir and his mom, and his beard is back to green.

    • ("Sprite of the Stump") After Lula is stuck in the stump, there is a shot of Dave, Candy, Fang, and Oswidge. You can clearly see that Candy has no nose in this scene.

    • (First Barbarian) Lula says to Candy "Two problems. One no hair. Two no toenails." BUT in Pet Threat, she comes out and she has curlers on! Sounds a little strange, doesn't it?

    • This is the first of many appearances of Princess Irmaplotz.

    • When Lula, the horse and Flaffy are tied up at the first time, you see her blade is gold, like a case, but in the next shot she's silver again.

    • In this episode, the closed captioning in the theme has a line wrote down wrong. The line: "Bold and Brave. They're Not!" But the caption says: "Bold and Brave and Nuts."

    • The Magic Brocolli increases size in very odd stages. After Candy's first piece her height doesn't really change, but she does get slightly more muscular. After her second piece she because twice as tall and musclebound, and when she takes her third and fourth pieces she becomes giant size.

    • After Candy kicks the Ox away and runs back to Biceptia, a part of her top, the pink material around her neck, is no longer seen. Showing instead is Candy's bare neck.

    Allusions (48)

    • Cut a muffin actually means to cut off part of a woman's breast.

    • Sprite: Whoever slays the muffin gets the immunity idol...
An clear and obvious reference to Survivor, where there are immunity challenges before the tribal council..

    • The Maddening Sprite of the Stump has an EXTREMELY similar plot to the Sword in the Stone.

    • Game Guy is a parody of Game Boy.

    • Some sound effects from the games are from real games. Most are from Super Mario Brothers.

    • Narrator: N/A
Ned's time-travelling zipper's origins refer to: Thor (Hammer of Thor), Spiderman (bitten by a radioactive insect), and The Shadow (power to cloud men's minds).

    • Candy's horse: When he wanted to play her Game Guy, and started threatening her with a vision he had.
In old England, Kings owned special-bred white horse that were said to be able to tell the future. This in reference to that old belief.

    • On Streets: PedXing
Ped Xing, used as the name of the poem book, is also on streets. Ped Xing means Pedestrian Crossing.
