    • Ran: (as Shin'ichi is leaving to chase the man from the coaster) I don't know why...but I'm getting a strange premonition...that I will never see Shin'ichi again...A very bad feeling...

    • Shin'ichi: Are you angry about something, Ran? Ran: No, it's just that thanks to you, my dad's business has gone down a lot. I'm a little uncomfortable. Shin'ichi: Don't blame me for your dad's lack of work. It's only because he doesn't have enough skill... Ran laughs and then punches a bit of concrete off of a lightpost. Ran: So...like I said...I'm not angry. Shin'ichi: (looking at where the concrete used to be) No wonder you're the captain of the karate team...

    • Ran: Tomorrow's promise, don't you remember? Shin'ichi: Promise? Ran: Didn't we agree that if I won the karate championships, you'd take me to Tropical Land!? Ran kicks at Shin'ichi and misses, causing him to look up her skirt. Ran: (hits him) PERVERT!

    • Shin'ichi: There is always only one truth.

    • Ran: There you are, Shin'ichi. Conan: Oh, man... Ran: You can't get away now. Who was that Ryouko? Why were you in her house? Weren't you stuck with a tough case? Conan: B-but, Ryouko was just-- Ran: Liar! She was crying. She got a call from you and started crying. I don't know what's going on... Ran: Come out and explain yourself, Shin'ichi! Ran: Shin'ichi... Conan: Ran, hear me out. I'm innocent. So don't cry. Ran: What? I can cry if I feel like it! Conan: I don't want you to. When you cry, I worry. Ran: Why? Conan: Well, I just wanted to say that-- Ran: What? That's not an answer, Shin'ichi! Ran: Professor Agasa. Agasa: Oh, hey, Ran! If you're looking for Shin'ichi, he ran that way blushing. Ran: Blushing? Shin'ichi: When you cry, I worry. Ran: What's going on?!

    • Conan: Robbery, kidnapping, murder... There are so many crimes these days. Agasa: And isn't that why detectives like you come in handy? Conan: Even though the cases are all too easy.

    • Conan: Come on out, Takeshi.

    • Editors: (chasing Yuusaku) There he is! It's him! Mr. Kudou! Hey, Kudou! Yuusaku: (trying to run away) It's the publishers from overseas! How did you know I was here? Editors: (still chasing) Your son called us and told us that you were here! Yuusaku (typing): You little... Conan: (at the corner of the screen) (laughs)

    • Manga/Anime Difference(s): - In the anime, Shinichi's face ends up under Ran's skirt after dodging her kicks. In the manga, he simply leaps out of the way to dodge her kicks. - In the anime, Kogoro, Agasa, Genta, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko make their first appearances. In the manga, Kogoro and Agasa would debut in the next story ("The Kidnapping of a Company President's Daughter Case"). Genta, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko's first appearance in the manga would be the 6th story ("The Haunted Mansion Murder Case")

    • Broken shoelace:
The shoelace breaking is a sign of bad luck in Japan, hence why Ran did not follow Shin'ichi.

    • The Silent Dog: Sherlock Holmes, in the Case of the Silver Blaze, discovered who the villain was because the stable dog did not bark. Conan implicating the butler on the 'silent word' of the dog is a direct homage to the Great Detective.

    • "He'll have the best chocolate he's ever tasted today!":
On Valentines Day, girls give special homemade chocolate to guys showing that they like them. The more elaborate it is, the more the girl likes the guy. Likewise on White Day, (March 14th; one month later) the guys give white chocolate to girls that they care about.

    • Dog's name (Jon):
It's common in Japan for owners to name their dogs "Jon".

    • "Write down the entire code from 'The Dancing Men' exactly as it appeared.":
A rather difficult question indeed. In the short story "The Adventure of the Dancing Men", the plot revolves around Holmes figuring out a rather bizarre code consisting of stick figure men drawn in various poses representing different letters of the alphabet. The code itself appears about four to five times within the story. Holmes manages to crack the code using substitution and later uses the code against the culprit in this case.

    • "What was the exact date that Holmes fell to the bottom of the valley with Professor Moriarty?"
This question on the test refers to the short story "The Final Problem" in which Holmes faces the Napoleon of Crime, the evil Professor James Moriarty. "Bottom of the valley" actually refers to the bottom of the Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland, where Holmes and Moriarty supposedly fell to their deaths. It is later revealed Holmes survived the fall, for he returns in another short story; "The Adventure of the Empty House". The period after Holmes's "death" and return was three years in length and is commonly referred to by Sherlockians as "The Great Hiatus".

      May 4th, 1891
The date Conan answers with is indeed, the correct answer to the question.

    • Ellery Queen:
"Ellery Queen" is both a fictional character and a pseudonym used by two Brooklyn cousins, Frederic Dannay and Manfred Bennington Lee. A series of mystery novels, spanning over forty-three years, were written by a detective named Ellery Queen about Ellery Queen. The two co-founded and directed Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, generally considered as one of the most influential English crime-fiction magazines of the last sixty-five years. They were also prominent historians in the field, editing numerous collections, and anthologies of short stories, such as The Misadventures of Sherlock Holmes. (Thank you Diane for this information!)
Heiji possibly takes special interest in this detective because Queen, like Heiji, has a police detective for a father.

    • Conan:
As we already know, Conan chose his alias from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's name. He was the creator of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
