    • Novelisation: Doctor Who and the Horror of Fang Rock by Terrance Dicks (ISBN 0 426 20009 8) first published by W H Allen in 1978.

    • Although they are not credited, the voices of Skinsale (Alan Row), Adelaide (Annette Woolett) and Palmerdale (Sean Caffrey) can clearly be heard as the yacht is crashing into the rocks.

    • This was something of a last-minute replacement for the script The Witch Lords by the same author. This eventually saw the light of day as Season 18's State of Decay.

    • Taped in Birmingham, this was the only serial in the original series to go into studio outside of London.
