  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (5)

    • The Master: It's in the very nature of things for entropy to win. The Doctor: Yes, it's the age-old battle, isn't it? Entropy versus structure. Still, while there's life, there's six of one, and half a dozen of the other. The Master: Woolly thinking, Doctor. The Doctor: Yes, very comforting when worn next to the skin.

    • The Doctor: I envy you your TARDIS, Master. The Master: Excellent, Doctor. Envy's the beginning of all true greatness.

    • Nyssa: The Master killed my stepmother, then my father, and now the world that I grew up in, blotted out forever.

    • Adric [ on the Pharos Project ]: The Earth people use it to beam messages to the stars. The Doctor calls it 'reiterated invitation to alien intellegences in deep space.' Nyssa: And that's us. Adric: So they'll be very pleased to see us!

    • The Doctor: It's the end... but the moment has been prepared for.

    Notes (5)

    • In the end credits, the image of Tom Baker is blurred out.

    • First appearance of Peter Davison as the Doctor.

    • The terrible danger the universe is in allows the Doctor's future self to manifest and assist him in the form of the mysterious Watcher. The two fuse at the story's climax, allowing the new Doctor to appear.

    • Prior to his fall, the Doctor has visions of many of his enemies: the Master (from The Deadly Assassin, Part One), a Dalek (Destiny of the Daleks Episode Four), the Pirate Captain (The Pirate Planet, Part Four), a Cyberman (Revenge of the Cybermen, Part Three), Davros (Genesis of the Daleks, Part Five), a Sontaran (The Invasion of Time, Part Five), a Zygon (Terror of the Zygons, Part Three) and the Black Guardian (The Armageddon Factor, Part Six). Immediately prior to his 'death', he has visions of all of his former companions: Sarah (from Terror of the Zygons, Part Two), Harry (The Sontaran Experiment, Part Two), the Brigadier (Invasion of the Dinosaurs, Part Two - a Third Doctor story!), Leela (The Robots of Death, Part One), K-9 (The Armageddon Factor, Part Two), the first Romana (The Stones of Blood, Part One) and the second Romana (Full Circle, Part One).

    • Final regular appearance of Tom Baker as the Doctor.

    Trivia (7)

    • The Doctor's flashback to the emaciated Master is of him saying "Predictable as ever, Doctor" in The Deadly Assassin, but the Doctor was not actually present when the Master said that.

    • Revealing Mistake: When the Doctor yanks out the cable at the climax, the sparks fall sideways, not straight down — as the scene was filmed at an angle.

    • Revealing Mistake: When the Doctor is on the antenna gantry, the Master is behind him in the doorway. It is obvious he is just a still photograph superimposed on the scene.

    • Factual Error: As entropy is a natural force, it would not spread faster than the speed of light.

    • Other Mistake: When the Master is explaining his plan to the Doctor, notice that Ainley locks eyes with Janet Fielding and nods to his left. He's giving her a cue that the Monitor is dying.
