    • Tegan: You have to learn to fend for yourself in the Outback you know. Aunt Vanessa: Your father's farm is hardly the Outback, my dear!

    • Detective Inspector: This your vehicle? The Doctor [ looking back at the TARDIS ]: Which vehicle? Detective Inspector [ annoyed ]: The sports car.

    • The Doctor: Much better to leave [the calculations] to the Logopolitans. They do it standing on their heads. Adric: Not with a computer? The Doctor [ slowly ]: 'Standing on their heads' is an expression.

    • The first time that the circular holes on the TARDIS walls are referred to as "roundels." Also the first time that the room with the console is referred to as the "console room" (previously it was called either the "control room" or "control chamber").

    • The Master is up to his old tricks and shrinks Tegan's auntie and a policeman to death in this episode (although how many viewers recognised his 'trademark' is debatable given that he'd only used it on two previous occasions).

    Trivia (4)

    • The Cloister Bell is heard for the first time. It will ring again in Castrovalva, Part One", and the 1996 movie. It rings many more times in the revived series.

    • Continuity: Throughout the serial, the TARDIS controls are flagrantly inconsistent. The big red knob is used both to open the door and to activate the chameleon circuit, while other levers and buttons are also used to open the door.

    • Revealing Mistakes: Tom Baker's voice is out of synch with his mouth during the first console room scene. (This has been fixed on the New Beginnings DVD.)

    • Plot Hole: Why is there a litter bin right next to a "Please Take Your Litter Home" sign?
