  • Quotes (8)

    • The Doctor: Ah, Brigadier! The Brigadier: Ah, Doctor, we must get moving… (He turns to see the Doctor dressed as a Viking warrior.) The Doctor: Is something wrong? The Brigadier: You've changed. The Doctor: Oh no, not again! The Brigadier: No, I didn't mean your face. I meant your clothes. The Doctor: Don't you like them? The Brigadier: UNIT is supposed to be a security organisation. The Doctor: Do you think I might attract attention? The Brigadier: It's just possible.

    • The Doctor: I tell you, Brigadier, there’s nothing to worry about. The brontosaurus is large and placid… Harry: Is this the patient, sir? The Doctor: …and stupid! If the square of a hypotenuse equals the sum of the square on the other two sides, why is a mouse when it spins. Never did know the answer to that one.

    • The Doctor: A new body’s like a new house. As for the physiognomy… well, nothing’s perfect. Have to take the rough with the smooth. Mind you, I think the nose is a definite improvement!

    • The Doctor: You don’t want to stand here burbling about my ears – that’s neither ‘ere nor there!

    • The Doctor: Excuse me. No, don’t tell me. Alexander the Great, no? Hannibal? No. Ah… Brigadier. Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart! How are you?

    Notes (6)

    • Two past series guest actors return for this episode. Edward Burnham, who plays Professor Kettlewell, had played Professor Watkins in Season 6's The Invasion. Michael Kilgariff, who plays the eponymous robot, played the Cyber-Controller in Season 5's The Tomb of the Cybermen (a role he would reprise in Season 22's Attack of the Cybermen). He was also an Ogron in Season 10's Frontier in Space.

    • DVD: Doctor Who: Robot (BBCDVD 2322) released in June 2007. Released in U.S.A./Canada (Warner Home Video E4112) in August 2007. Video: Doctor Who: Robot (BBCV 4714) released in March 1992. Released in U.S.A./Canada (Warner Home Video E1260) in May 1994.

    • Novelisation: Doctor Who and the Giant Robot by Terrance Dicks (ISBN 0 426 11279 2) first published by Universal-Tandem in 1975.

    • The Doctor's regeneration sequence features Tom Baker's footage from Planet of the Spiders, but new footage of the Brigadier and Sarah Jane.

    • The first story to use videotape for exterior filming (partly due to the large volume of FX work in the final episode).

    Trivia (2)

    • The Brigadier's full name (Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart) is mentioned for the first time.

    • Revealing Mistakes: The brick the Doctor chops in half is made of wood. Note the sound when it falls to the floor.

    Allusions (1)

    • The Doctor: Why is a mouse when it spins? The Doctor is alluding to a old Welsh riddle. The nonsensical "answer" varies but is typically "because the greater the fewer" or "the higher it flies the fewer."
