Deathmatch Duck / Deconstructing Dodgers

Trivia, Quotes, Notes and Allusions

Quotes (5)

  • DD: I'll use the element of surprise to sneak up on him! (Runs into Taz) Typical!

  • Cadet: This is d-d-definitely the ship that attacked Maltese Seven. DD: Curses! I had a time share on Maltese Seven!

  • DD: My adversary has over-powering strength, but limited intellect.

  • I.Q.: Don't be too hard on yourself, Your Majesty. Dodgers does have a sort of infectious charm. That's probably why I haven't fired him yet. Queen: Yes, curse that infectious charm ... I wonder if he's busy tonight ...

  • Queen: So, how is he? I.Q.: Who? Queen: The one who stole my heart. I.Q.: You mean Dodgers? No offense, Your Majesty, but you can do better!

Notes (6)

  • The scene in "Deconstructing Dodgers" where Dodgers tries to remember the correct sequence of loading a gun (with the poweder, the shot, and the wadding) and constantly failing is similar to the 1956 Looney Tunes cartoon "The Slap-Hoppy Mouse" where Sylvester tries to remember the correct sequence of loading a gun in order to capture Hippity Hopper with his son, Sylvester, Jr.

  • The Martian Queen's name is Tyrani, and she's on a first name basis with I.Q. Hi.

  • The Queen's true name most likely came from the theme song. In the song, the camera pans on the Martian Queen while Tom Jones sings the line, "Duck Dodgers is fighting tyranny."

  • The 'past' that I.Q Hi and the Queen experience actually seem to be deleted scenes from "The Fast and the Feathery," "I'm Going To Get You, Fat Sucka," "The Green Loontern," "Quarterback Quack," and "Duck Departure."

  • Teletoon airdate: October 24, 2004.

  • "Deathmatch Duck" is "Chapter: 81.16"; "Deconstructing Dodgers" is "Chapter: 07.04".

Allusions (3)

  • n/a: King Kong
The black and white flashback in "Deconstructing Dodgers," where the big gorilla hand grabs Dodgers, is a reference to the King Kong movies.

  • DD: No steroids. Except that time I won the Mr. Universe contest and ran for governor of California.
Dodgers is blatantly taking a jab at Arnold, the current governor of California as well as a past Mr. Universe.

  • DD: There must be something here I can use as a weapon.
Dodgers attempts to (ineptly) use the natural resources of the planet to build a weapon to defeat the physically superior Taz. This is a parody of the Captain Kirk's attempt to build a crude gun during his duel with the Gorn in the Star Trek episode, "Arena." Though unlike Kirk, Dodgers fails to realize he's surrounded by potential weapons since most of the plant life grows weapons as fruit.
