Part 2 of the 2-hour "Falling Skies" season finale
Well... the second part of the 2-hour season finale was excellent except the only disappointing part about this episode was that it wasn't action-packed. Come on writers, you should at least have the brains to make a season finale have action-packed scenes. This episode only had like 2 action scenes and that was it. One action scene was in the middle when Tom and the others were shooting those alien robot type things and the other one was when Tom was saving Captain Weaver, John Pope, and a few others while one of them died. Tom shooting that spaceship 4 minutes before the finale ended was pretty good also. I also thought that the ending of the finale was epic but they kinda left a cliffhanger which wasn't good because I have to wait til' freakin' Summer 2012 for Season 2 and see what happens. The aliens talk to Tom and they said that either Tom comes with them or they have get Ben back and since Ben is Tom's son, Tom decides to go with the aliens and the finale ends with Captain Weaver yelling "Tom, no stop, what are you doing? TOM". Overall, not enough action was the only disappointing part of this episode but the rest was well executed and the ending of the finale was definitely good... I can't believe Season 2 is next summer and I hate that so much. Oh well, a year will go by fast. 10/10moreless
Eight Hours was a superb episode and season 1 finale of Falling Skies. I enjoyed watching this episode which did have lots of character and plot development, action, drama, intrigue, and more mechs and aliens. I liked the episode however I thought there would be more with the aliens or that we would actually learn more than we did if we really learned anything we didn't already know. Rick finally reveals his true feelings only to be rejected and Ben helps find a way to stop an attack. All the characters were awesome in this episode. Tom and Weaver launch a last ditch attack causing damage to the alien structure. The last scene was like Encounters of The Third Kind and wish there was more to it then what there was. I look forward to another season of Falling Skies!!!!!!!moreless
The Finale of Season One.
The first half of the episode is spent saying final goodbyes and somewhat resolving the drama plotlines. Anne and Tom share a kiss and Anne effectively becomes mother for Tom's kids - like we didn't see that one coming from the first episode. And annoying kids act like annoying kids. The climatic battle happens conveniently off-screen (apparently they run out of money to film it), and instead of a huge battle sequence, we get one short firefight against a Mech. And just when things start to look bad for the humans, a flagpole acting as an antenna saves the day. The season ends with Tom making ridiculously lucky shot at one alien ship with an RPG, and of course a cliffhanger.
So that's the first season of Falling Skies. Was it worth watching? Not really. The drama side simply never worked. We didn't care about the characters, because we either didn't spend enough time with them, or they were acting like idiots, or they were too arch-types. And of course the dialogue, acting and writing was very much sub-par for most of the episodes. The aliens were pretty interesting, but they were never really properly explored, and for the latter part of the season, never felt threatening.
Unless they hire some good writers for next season, I see no reason to watch this series any further.moreless
