  • show Description
  • Five years ago, astronaut John Crichton attempted to use the Earth's atmosphere to propel his ship, Farscape 1, at great speeds across the solar system. He went much further though and was sucked down a wormhole to a distant part of the galaxy and into the middle of a battle. He was rescued by a group of escaping prisoners and taken aboard their ship, a living ship. As the years went by, Crichton has made enemies, powerful and dangerous enemies. On his journey to find a way back home, he freed other captives who became part of the crew on Moya.moreless

    • Crichton: Oh, please, let it all be a dream. A very bad, very twisted dream.

    • Zhann: How old are you?
      D'argo: Thirty cycles
Zhann: Why you are just a boy.
D'argo: I am not a boy! I am a warrior! I've already seen two war campaigns.
      Zhann: Only two?

    • Zhaan: The others, where are they?
Rygel: There are no others. I've checked every cell level. I found the manifest. We were scheduled for transfer to Terran Raa.
      D'Argo: That is a lifer's colony.
Crichton: You're prisoners? You're escaped prisoners?
D'Argo: I will not be taken prisoner again.

    • Crichton: There's life out here Dad. Weird, amazing... psychotic life. And, uh, in Technicolor.

    • Crais: (to Crichton) A human? That will require some study. I will personally enjoy pulling you apart to see what you are made of.

    • Aeryn: (to Crichton) Listen to me. If you want to live, choose your allegiances carefully. That's not to say there are any guarantees, though.

    • Crichton: Look, I... can't be your kind of hero.
Jack: No, you can't be. But each man gets a chance to be his own kind of hero. Your time will come and when it does watch out chances are it will be the last thing you ever expected.

    • Crais: And, where are you from, John Crichton?
Aeryn: Sir, he claims to be human from a planet called Earp.

    Notes (393)

    • The DVD and single VHS releases of Farscape episodes each include approximately 5 extra minutes of footage not used in the North American broadcasts. The extra footage is not cut from European airings of the show. Some of the cut footage from this episode includes Zhaan (Virgina Hey) giving Crichton (Ben Browder) a "Delvian ear kiss".

    • The IASA Space Shuttle Collaroy was named after a beach in the northern suburbs of Sydney by Andrew Prowse, the episode's director.

    • In the scene where Aeryn manually pilots Moya, the shot that pans out to show Moya "slingshoting" into Starburst is the same shot used in the opening titles.

    • This episode was originally much longer as a script, but many scenes were re-worked and change from the script due to time constraints.

    • Crichton was originally written to be a NASA astronaut. However NASA was changed to IASA because NASA wanted to review/approve the entire script. But they were only involved in the first few minutes of the show. Producers didn't want them to edit the entire script, just the parts that they were mentioned in.

    • In the original script, Zhaan was called "Pa'u Zotah Zenn"

    • This is the only episode where the voice over was not used during the intro credits.

    • International Air Dates: -Canada: September 15, 1999 on YTV. -UK: November 29, 1999 on BBC-2. -Australia: May 20, 2000 on Nine.

    Trivia (518)

    • Goof: Anthony Simcoe's real nose can be seen beneath his prosthetic facial makeup several times.

    • When Zhaan learns that D'Argo has safely returned to Moya after his capture by the Peacekeepers, she says, "Thank Kahayna." Usually when Zhaan thanks her deity, she says "Thank the Goddess." The name she speaks here, however is very close to "Kahaynu", which is the name of a being who is worshiped as the Creator God of Leviathans.

    • D'Argo is 30 cycles old and he says that he has been imprisoned on Moya for 8 cycles for killing his commanding officer.

    • Aeryn has been declared irreversibly contaminated by her former commanding officer Captain Crais.

    • Before his throne was usurped by his cousin Bishan, Rygel ruled an empire of over 600 billion subjects.

    • John Crichton's father (also an astronaut) knew Yuri Gagarin, the first Human in space, and carries the puzzle ring Gagarin gave him as a good luck charm.

    • D'Argo can knock people unconscious using his extraordinarily long tongue as a weapon.

    • Prior to being liberated, Moya was headed for Terran Raa, a lifers' colony.

    • D.K.: Uh, oh -- one small step, bud.

D.K. is using the famous line, spoken by the United States astronaut Neil Armstrong as he made the first human step out onto the Moon's surface.

    • Crichton: (snatching a gun and turning it on his captors) Don't move! Or I'll fill you full of.... little yellow bolts of light. A reference to the old western cliche: "Don't move or I'll fill you full of lead." Obviously, Peacekeeper weapons don't fire bullets.

    • Crichton: Boy, was Spielberg ever wrong. Close Encounters, my ass!

An obvious comparison to director Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind in which the aliens are benevolent toward humans in their First Contact. Crichton makes this comment from the cell in which his First Contact aliens (the crew of Moya) have imprisoned him.

    • Crichton: Next planet, I'll rent you a copy of Animal House.
Crichton refers to the John Belushi film National Lampoon's Animal House, one of the ultimate frat house movies.

    • Crichton: Hetch seven? Thing's a Hyundai -- why don't we stop playing hide and seek and just smoke 'em?
Hyundai is a Korean manufacturer of economy automobiles, which are marketed in the United States. Whatever their product's actual quality may be, they have frequently been the target of derisive humor.

    • Crichton: D'Argo, the giant Ouija board says, uh...optimum plus 3.
A Ouija board or talking board is a flat surface printed with letters, numbers, and other symbols, to which a planchette or movable indicator points, supposedly in answer to questions from people at a seance. The fingers of the participants are placed on the planchette that then moves about the board to spell out messages. Ouija is a trademark for a talking board currently sold by Parker Brothers.

    • Predator:
When we see through the Draks eyes at the beginning the view we get is similar to the view we get through Predator's eyes in the Arnold Schwarzenegger action film Predator.

    • Title: The title "Exodus from Genesis" is comprised of the names of the first two books of the Bible in reverse order.
