Frasier Crane's Day Off

Trivia, Quotes, Notes and Allusions

Quotes (8)

  • Gil: (presenting Frasier with a bag from the deli) Chicken soup so lovingly prepared, even the chicken gets well!

  • Frasier: I filled in for you at your fear of intimacy group. Niles: I wasn't sick. They were just getting too close.

  • Frasier: (completely high on medication) Hello, you're on the crane with Frasier Air!

  • Roz: (showing Niles around the control panel in Frasier's booth) Here's the cough button, in case you need to cough or clear your throat. And most important, here's an extra-long commercial to use if you need a bathroom break. Niles: Thank you, but those won't be necessary. I have no cough reflex, and excellent bladder control. Roz: It's true - all the good ones are married.

  • Niles: (filling in on the radio for Frasier) ...and remember that Frasier is a Freudian while I am a Jungian, so there will be no blaming Mother today!

  • Frasier: (talking to Gil Chesterton) I've taken some wonder drugs and I feel wonderful. Well, I'm going to go do my show now so ta ta pie man!

  • Robert: Hi, Dr. Crane. Thanks for taking my call. I'm a little nervous, okay? My name is Robert. Frasier: (spaced out) And your name is? Robert: ...My name is Robert. Frasier: (spaced out) Oh, I'm sorry. We've already had a Robert on the show today. Goodbye! (Frasier hangs up on Robert)

  • Roz: Tony, it's Roz. Could you get security up here? Captain Kirk's got control of the bridge and he's gone insane!

Notes (1)

  • Frasier asks Daphne to get him a drug called Syducane. This drug name is a play on the name of Sy Dukane, a writer and supervising producer for season 1.

Trivia (4)

  • Life at KACL: This episode marks a bit of a break from the continuity established throughout the first season. Upon seeing Gil Chesterton, Frasier comments that Gil is "his cue to leave," indicating that Gil's show is to follow his, not The Gonzo Sports Show. This also marks the second mention of Bonnie Weems's car show and we learn that, thanks to Gil, she now occupies the Midnight to 4AM slot.

  • For this episode, dead-bolts have been newly added to the hall doors to both Frasier's and Roz's studios in order to accommodate the scene where Frasier barricades himself in the studio. Ironically, when Frasier locks these doors, he never touches the newly-installed dead-bolts, but merely wiggles the door handles as if locking them. Of added interest is the fact that the end-credits scene must have been shot prior to the episode as the dead-bolts have not yet been installed.

  • Gil pronounces the German for Black Forest Gateaux as "Schwarzwaldkirscht√∂ten"--literally, "Kill Black Forest Cherry!" (The correct name is Schwarzwaldkirschtorte).

  • In previous episodes in season 1, it is Bulldog who has the time slot following Frasier at work. It would be unusual for a talk radio station to have different schedules on different weekdays. So unless the weekly lineup has changed over the season, this seems peculiar.

Allusions (1)

  • Episode Title: Frasier Crane's Day Off The title is a parody of the 1980s movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which is ironic because Ferris had a lot more fun on his day off than Frasier did in this episode.
