Allusions (2)

  • The character of Dr. Mary is reminiscent of Dr. Shirlee, Dolly Parton's character in the 1992 film Straight Talk. Like Dr. Mary, she was not really a doctor, but she was referred to as Dr. Shirlee, and her listeners believed her to be one.
