    • Ross: You didn't read Lord of the Rings in high school?
Joey: No, I had sex in high school.

    • Monica: I got offered the head chef job at Allesandro's. Phoebe: What? Monica: It's okay, 'cause you know what? You don't really need me for the business. Phoebe: You're the cook! Without you it's just me driving up to people's houses with empty trays and asking for money!

    • Rachel: Hey Mon, little question for ya! How do you think this suit will look on an assistant buyer? Monica: Okay, the owner of Allesandro's came over to yell at me, but instead I made him some sauce, and he offered me the job as head chef! Rachel: Oh, my God! You just ruined the thing I was practicing the whole way home, but I'm so happy! Monica: Can you believe it? I finally get to run my own kitchen! Rachel: Oh, you've waited so long.

    • (Phoebe and Monica are leading the other friends, who have their eyes covered, out of the coffee shop) Monica: No peeking! Chandler: Our eyes are closed, and we're crossing the street. Very good.

    • Phoebe: Wow, you really wanted me to do something with this van. You know what? I want you to take the chef job. Monica: Really? Phoebe: Yeah. That's what you really want. Yeah, I don't want to be the reason you're unhappy. That would just make me unhappy. And I really don't want to be the reason I'm unhappy. Monica: Thank you. Phoebe: Besides, it might be kinda fun to form the new A-Team.

    Trivia (3)

    • Continuity: Ross’s year of birth is inconsistent. In "The Pilot", (1994) Ross says he is 26, implying he was born in 1967. Also, in "The One Where Monica and Richard are Just Friends" (1997) he says he is 29. However in the next season in "The One Where They're Going to Party" Ross also says he is 29, implying he was born in 1968. Furthermore, in the next season in "The One Where Phoebe Hates PBS" Ross says he is about to get divorced again before he’s thirty, implying he is still 29 and born in 1969. Also, in "The One with the Video Tape", Ross claims that he backpacked across Europe in 1983 then whispers to himself "I was thirteen?", implying he was born in 1969 or 1970.

    • Goof: When Phoebe is looking at the Chelsea Reporter, Monica says her review is on the back page. When Phoebe goes to read the review, she simply turns the paper over and reads the bottom of the front page.

    • Goof: When Chandler answers the phone and it's Gandalf calling to cancel, Ross is about to open the fridge. When the camera angle changes, Ross is already putting two beers down on the counter.

    Allusions (3)

    • Ross: And so what if I like to go home, throw on some Kenny G and take a bath. Joey: We're 29. We're not women. Kenny G. is an American soprano saxophonist.

    • Phoebe: Besides, it might be kinda fun to form the new A-Team. The A-Team was a popular television show which aired from 1983 to 1987.

    • Joey: Well, why do you call him Gandalf? Ross: Gandalf the wizard. Hello?! Didn't you read Lord of the Rings in high school? Joey: No, I had sex in high school. Ross and Chandler's friend Mike "Gandalf" Ganderson, who they called the party wizard, is based on the character from The Lord Of The Rings. Gandalf the wizard, who was also known to be a hit at the parties with his fireworks, was played by Ian McKellen in the Academy Award-winning film adaptation Lord of the Rings.
