    • Joanne: Well, guess who my dad's making partner in his firm? (She points to herself. They scream.) Kiki: And while we're on the subject of news... (She shows them her engagement ring. They scream.) Phoebe: (To Monica) Look, look, I have elbows! (She holds up her elbows. They scream.)

    • Rachel: Okay, I'm not just waitressing. I'm... I, um... I write the specials on the specials board, and, uh... and I, uh... I take the, uh, dead flowers out of the vase... Oh, and, um, sometimes Artelle lets me put the little chocolate blobbies on the cookies. Leslie: Well. Your mom didn't tell us about the blobbies.

    Notes (4)

    • International Episode Title: Czech Republic: N├íplast na smutek (Patch for Sadness)

    • The opening credits for this episode were slightly different with a few different shots used than the normal opening credits at the time.

    • Rachel mentions to her old friends that she does her own laundry, but that doesn't happen until the following episode. This is due to the fact that "The One with the East German Laundry Detergent" was produced before this one. This might also explain why this episode aired on October 13, but it takes place on October 20, the air date of "The One with the East German Laundry Detergent."

    • This episode runs 25:20 on DVD (a typical sitcom runs about 22:00). Among the added material, a scene features the girls talking about the guys, while contrasting examples to what they discuss are shown.

    Trivia (6)

    • Continuity: In this episode Phoebe tells Monica that she slept with her ex-boyfriend, Jason Hurley, two hours after they broke up and Rachel has no idea about it because it happened before she joined the group. However, in "The One Where Eddie Won't Go," Rachel tells Monica that Phoebe slept with Jason an hour after they broke up and Monica seems surprised and angry with Phoebe.

    • Goof: When Chandler, Joey and Ross went to the emergency room they come into contact with Dora whom is making a call in reference to the quality of a candy bar. She says she is calling to tell them that she is not fully satisfied with "this" candy bar. This cannot be possible if the candy bar has not been open yet.

    • Factual Error: Ross, Chandler, and Joey go to a New York Rangers - Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game. In reality the National Hockey League was experiencing a lockout during the 1994-95 season that lasted until January, meaning that no game could have existed in October of 1994.

    • Trivia: When the girls are out on the balcony discussing what the boys would be like in bed, their discussion foreshadows their future romantic entanglements. Phoebe speaks highly of Joey, Monica of Chandler, and Rachel of Ross. (Although Phoebe and Joey were never technically together, they often acted as a pair.)

    • Continuity: Ross's birthday is inconsistent. In "The One Where Emma Cries" Ross says his birthday is October 18th. Also, in "The One with Five Steaks and an Eggplant" (which aired October 19th) Ross is taken to the Hootie and the Blowfish concert on his birthday. However, in "The One with George Stephanopoulos," Joey and Chandler buy Rangers' tickets to celebrate Ross's birthday on October 20th, and Ross says that his birthday was seven months ago, implying his birthday is in March. Furthermore, in "The One with Joey's New Girlfriend" Ross tells Gunther his birthday is in December.

    • Phoebe: You are just like Jack. Rachel: ... Jack from downstairs? Phoebe: No, Jack and the Beanstalk. Monica: Ah, the other Jack. Phoebe: Yeah, right! See, he gave up something, but then he got those magic beans. And then he woke up, and there was this, this big plant outside his window, full of possibilities and stuff... And he lived in a village, and you live in the Village... Rachel: Okay, but Pheebs, Pheebs, Jack gave up a cow, I gave up an orthodontist. Okay, I, I, I know, I know I didn't love him. Phoebe: Oh, see, Jack did love the cow. Jack and the Beanstalk is a popular English fairy tale which first appeared in a printed form in 1807. • Chandler: (Kicking a can) ...Poulet passes it up to Leetch! Joey: Leetch spots Messier in the crease. There's the pass!... Chandler: We'll be taking a brief time out while Messier stops to look at some women's shoes. Brian Leetch was a defensemen for the New York Rangers from 1988 to 2004. He was team captain from 1997 to 2000. Leetch's number 2 was retired on January 24th, 2008. Mark Messier was the center for the New York Rangers from 1991 to 1997 and 2000 to 2004. He was team captain from 1991 to 1997 and when he returned to the team he captained from 2000 to 2004. Between the Rangers and his former team, the Edmonton Oilers, Messier has won six Stanley cups. A Hall of Fame inductee, he is second on the all-time career lists for regular season points, playoff points, and regular season games played. He also is the only professional athlete to captain two different teams to championships. Messier's number 11 was retired on January 12th, 2006. The Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994, the year this episode aired, for their performance in the 1993-94 season.

    • Pizza Guy: Wait, you're not "G. Stephanopoulos?" Man, my dad's gonna kill me! Monica: Wait! Did you say "G. Stephanopoulos?" Pizza Guy: Yeah. This one goes across the street. I must have given him yours. Oh, bonehead, bonehead! Monica: Wait, was this a small Mediterranean guy with curiously intelligent good looks? Pizza Guy: Yeah, that sounds about right. Monica: Was he wearing a stunning blue suit? Phoebe: And a power tie? Pizza Guy: No, pretty much just a towel. Monica: Oh God. Pizza Guy: So you guys want me to take this back? Monica: Are you nuts?! We got George Stephanopoulos's pizza! George Stephanopoulos is an American broadcaster and political adviser who currently works for ABC.
