    • (As Ross begins to tell the story of Chanukah, Chandler arrives in a Santa suit, interrupting)
Ross: What are you doing here, Santa?
Chandler: Well, I'm here to see my old buddy, Ben. What are you doing here,... weird... turtle man?

    • Ross: (Wearing an armadillo costume) I'm the Holiday Armadillo! I'm a friend of Santa's and he sent me here to wish you a merry Christmas
Monica: What happened to Santa, Holiday Armadillo?
Ross: Santa was unavailable so close to Christmas!
Monica: Oh, well, come in, have a seat. You must be exhausted coming all the way from... Texas.
      Ben: Texas?
Ross: That's right, Ben. I'm Santa's representative for all the southern states and Mexico! But he sent me here to bring some presents for you! Merry Christmas! Oh... and, Happy Hanukkah!

    • Phoebe: (Rachel is enjoying the drums Phoebe bought Joey to trick her into moving out) So you like the drums? That’s, that’s great! You know, I was worried, you know, that would create maybe an unbearable living situation. But okay, well, apparently not, so yay!

    • (Phoebe's apartment has been re-done, but it only has one bedroom)
Rachel: So what should we do? Should we start looking for a new place?
Phoebe: You know, I’m, um, I’m sensing that, um, my grandmother would not be comfortable with that.
Rachel: Oh yeah? Starting to feel her again there, are we?
      Phoebe: A little bit, yeah.
Rachel: Pheebs, is your grandmother maybe saying that you should live here alone?
Phoebe: You heard her, too? You have the gift!

    • Joey: (About the tarantula) Did you get it? Rachel: I got it. Joey: Back in the cage? Rachel: It's back in the cage. Joey: Is the cage closed? Rachel: Joey, will you just come out here and stop being such a baby!

    • The music playing in the background while the gang lights the Hanukkah candles is the song "Tradition" from The Fiddler on the Roof. This song was used in the musical to teach Jewish traditions. The producers and director were unsure if many people would get the joke.

    • Music: "Tradition" by Jerry Bock from The Fiddler on the Roof

    • This episode runs 23:19 on DVD (a typical sitcom runs about 22:00).

    Trivia (5)

    • Goof: When Ben sits down on the couch to hear about the Festival of Lights he seems to sit down in the wrong place, and Monica helps him move over.

    • Goof: When Ross entered the costume shop, the salesman mistakenly thought Ross was there to return the pants he was wearing. Since Ross was empty handed, did the salesman think he was going to remove his pants to return them, and then leave the shop in his underwear?

    • Goof: When Ross is telling Ben about Hanukkah in his apartment, Ben's hair keeps changing from laying flat to spiked up between shots.

    • Continuity: In this episode, Chandler can't tip by passing the money while handshaking. Yet in "The One Where Old Yeller Dies" both Chandler and Joey learn how to slip money from Richard.

    Allusions (4)

    • Ross: What are you doing? Chandler: You called everyone and said you were having trouble finding a Santa costume, so I borrowed one from a guy at work! Ross: Thank you, but, but you gotta leave. Chandler: Why? Ross: Because, I'm finally getting him excited about Hanukkah, and, and you're, you’re wrecking it. Chandler: But I didn't get to shape my belly like a bowl full of jelly. This is a reference to the well-known poem "The Night Before Christmas." The poem was written anonymously in 1823 and is largely responsible for the modern day concept of the American Santa Claus. The specific line is "... and a little round belly that shook when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly."

    • Phoebe: I understand why Superman is here, but why is there a porcupine at the Easter Bunny's Funeral? Superman, Joey's costume, is a fictional comic book superhero published by DC Comics. The Easter Bunny, who is the subject of numerous stories, is a mythic bunny who brings candy and presents to children Easter, a Christian holiday.

    • Rachel and Joey: Tequila! Rachel and Joey were attempting to perform "Tequila," a 1958 song by The Champs.

    • Chandler: I just got us reservations at Michelle's and tickets to The Music Man to celebrate our first holiday season as a betrothed couple. The Music Man is a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical by Meredith Wilson.
