Not my favorite
This was an enjoyable episode, but not my favorite one by far. It includes the return of Fry's girlfriend from the year 2000, Michelle.
The best way to describe this episode is through TV.com's synopsis:
When Fry and Bender decide to take the Planet Express ship out for a joy ride and end up damaging the building, they get themselves and Leela fired. Leela decides to get her old job back at the Cryogenics lab, but accidentally switches her old career chip with Fry's. She ends up working as a pizza delivery girl while Fry and Bender have new jobs as cryogenics counselors. Fry and Bender are enjoying their new jobs when Fry unfreezes his old girlfriend Michelle from a thousand years ago. It turns out Michelle's life went downhill after Fry left and she froze herself to get a new start. Fry and Michelle seem to be back together, but everything in the future freaks her out. She talks Fry into freezing themselves again another thousand years. When they wake up they find themselves in an apocalyptic wasteland run by kids with guns. After arguing with Michelle, Fry decides to leave her. Fry goes wandering off and finds what seems to be Mann's Chinese Theater. He soon finds Leela and Bender and they tell him that's he's not in the year 4000 at all, but rather in Los Angeles.moreless
It's usually considered one of the worst, but I thought it was pretty good!
"The Cryonic Woman"
Well, I'm one of those fans who liked this episode, since almost everyone hates it but I feel its a very underrated episode. The first two acts of the episode are very good, whilst the 3rd one is weaker but still good. The Cryonic Woman offers quite a good plot, but its ending could be better. After getting fired by Farnsworth, Fry, Bender, and Leela get new jobs. Fry works at the cryogenics lab and bumps into a frozen Michelle, Fry's Ex. Fry shows Michelle the year 3000 to her, but she can't cope with it. She tells Fry that they should go to the year 4000. Things go wrong, and not everything turns out to be what it is.
Overall, the jokes were classic in the first act, focusing on Fry and Bender driving the ship unattended, Bender saying he is steering the ship with his ass. In the cryogenics lab, Bender scares newly awakened people with costumes and delivers very funny moments. Fry intoduces people to the probulator in a rather amusing manner (one of them being Pauly Shore), and so the humour level slighly dips when Michelle is introduced, though its still funny when she sees all the stuff in the future and can't find a vanishing cream that doesn't actually make her vanish. The jokes are almost non-existent in the final act, though Fry delivers one funny line stupidly not realising that deathboarding is actually more dangerous than skateboarding. I personally thought the deathboarding scene was one of the coolest action sequences the show has ever done. The humour picks up again when the Planet Express crew find him, with the episode ending with Farnsworth dropping Fry down a mysterious trap door after Bender reminds him why he was fired in the first place. A score deserving around a B overall, mainly because the final act was quite weak compared to the other two, but not enough to totally ruin the episode (I thought the twist of it not being the year 4000 was actually pretty good!)moreless
Its a bizzare thing considering the show is set in the year 3000, but with the technology that is apparently available at this time - anything is possible! The twist of them oing to the Year 4000, but it ends up being LA was fantastic! Michelle (Fry's girlfriend) wasn't very nice, actually she was quite horrible to him. Bringing Fry's past to the show has always been a good idea. My favourite episode is Jurassic Bark which focuses around Fry's dog in the year 2000. This is another goodie. My favourite scenes involved Fry and Bender scaring the people who arrived in the year 3000moreless
Fry's former girlfriend is back on the scene.
Fry and Bender decide to take the Planet Express ship out for a joyride thinking no one will notice. What they don't realize is that the unbreakable tether is tied to the building and when they take off, they take the building and everyone inside with them. After a hair-raising flight they land the ship to find everyone extremely mad. Leela gets fired along with Fry and Bender because she left the keys in the ship. Now they have to find jobs. Leela decides to go back to her old job at the cryogenic lab. Fry and Bender go as well and....moreless
A good episode, but not what I expected from this episode and not what I expected from the writers of this episode.
In an attempt to entertain themselves, Fry and Bender borrow the Planet Express Ship. Unfortunately, the ship is anchored to the building using an unbreakable diamond tether. As the ship is piloted on a round-the-world joyride, the building is dragged behind it, smashing into a number of landmarks, including the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and the Great Wall of China (which allows the Mongols to invade). Professor Farnsworth has Hermes Conrad fire Fry and Bender for taking the ship, and fires Leela as well for leaving the keys in the ship.
Leela re-implants her and Fry's old career chips, but she mixes them up. Fry gets hired for Leela's old cryogenics counselor job; Leela is forced to be a delivery boy while Bender has the hand and the career chip from the Prime minister of Norway. Fry thaws out Pauly Shore, who was supposed to be thawed out in Hollywood, California. When Fry goes to greet the next thawed person, he is shocked to find that it is his old girlfriend, Michelle (played by Sarah Silverman).
Fry introduces Michelle to the world of the year 3000, but she has problems adapting. She re-freezes both herself, and Fry, for another thousand years. They awake in a desolate wasteland. They try to make a new life in the world of the future, and join a society of feral adolescents. When the children are picked up for Hebrew lessons by an adult woman in a heavily armored SUV, a confused Fry, tired of Michelle's nagging, leaves her and wanders through the wilderness on his own.
After wandering through a cloud of green mist, Fry finds himself standing in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater. The Planet Express ship lands in the street, and the crew explains that Fry is in Los Angeles, in the year 3000. Fry was in Pauly Shore's tube, and when the delivery crew discovered en route to Hollywood that Pauly Shore wasn't in the tube, they tossed it overboard. A limousine passes by, revealing that Michelle has hooked up with Pauly.
As the Planet Express ship flies home, Bender remarks that Fry was the one who ruined the spaceship and started the whole dilemma and reminds the Professor about his anger with him earlier. He hits a red switch, a trapdoor Fry is standing over opens and he falls through the aperture onto the ground, leaving him stranded there (he made his way back only because he dumped him over New New York). As he hits the ground, the credits roll.moreless
A lot of people really hate this episode, but I don't really see why.
A lot of people really hate this episode, but I don't really see why. It's by no means the best the show has to offer, but it is good and has loads of good jokes, especially Fry's line about robbing Fort Knox on elephant back. It's always nice to see Leela's old co-workers again, and the whole cryogenic councellor thing was funny, although her boss is a bit of a pointless Apu knock-off. The part in the 'year 4000' was a little dull (except for the skateboard race) and pointless, but a nice revelation at the end. Not a very good ending.moreless
Fry meets and old girlfriend.
Bender and Fry take the Planet Express ship out for a joy ride causing lots of damage because unknown to them the building was tethered to the building. As a result Fry, Leela and Bender are fired.
While getting reassigned jobs it is discovered that Fry has Leela's career chip and she has his. Leela must endure the career of a delivery boy while Fry begins work at the Cryogenic Lab. It is here that he finds an old girlfriend who has just come out of the tube.
After being frightened by the new world she persuades Fry to leave the Year 3000 and try to find a better place 1000 years further into the future.moreless

Re-introduction of Michelle
This is the first time Michelle is seen in the future as it is revealed that she too was frozen in the cryonics tube. The joyride that Bender and Fry go on is hilarious, bringing back the unbreakable tether from the deep south earlier in the season. I loved the fact that the episode ended with Fry staying fired though he still goes on deliveries in future episodes. Fry and Bender working at the cryonics lab is great and shows what humour the writers can use with the characters. The revelation that the deserted year 4000 was in fact LA was a great ending to a good episode.moreless
