  • show Description
  • Nationally syndicated radio talk show host Glenn Beck became even more visible in 2006 with his first television commentary show, CNN's Glenn Beck, which was at the time, the fastest growing TV talk show on cable. In 2009, Beck's show moved over to the Fox News Channel. Getting his start in radio after winning a contest to be a DJ for an hour, Beck began his talk show career at Tampa, Florida's 970 WFLA-AM, going to the number one slot in less than a year. The Glenn Beck Program radio show is syndicated through the Premiere Radio Network on over 300 radio stations as well as XM Satellite Radio, making it the third highest rated national radio talk show with adults 25 to 54. A recovering alcoholic, Beck shares his triumphs, struggles, and discoveries on the shows and isn't afraid of controversy. Debuting May 8, 2006, Glenn Beck, the television show, doubled CNN's viewers during the time period and became one of the network's most popular shows. But being the only conservative voice on the ultra-liberal cable channel proved to be too much for CNN and the show moved to the more politically centered Fox News Channel in 2009. Featuring witty responses to current events in a conservative light, Glenn Beck was a news entertainment show for "those who cannot stand to watch the news anymore." After lots of pressure from the left, and a dispute with FOX News chief, The Glenn Beck Program left FOX June 30, 2011.moreless

    • Glenn Beck: My theory is: When a man tries to live in accordance with nature's God and nature's law - as it's spelled out in the Declaration of Independence - and works for betterment of man - man, an individual and free you - God helps. However, when man seeks power and riches by using nature's God or nature's laws in conjunction with others seeking the same - power and riches - God withdraws and evil masquerades as good.

    • Glenn Beck: Until the Founders started dying off...they recognized what they had accomplished and they recognized that it wasn't because of them. George Washington...said no people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand which conducts the affairs of men more than those of the United States. They all said something like that, that God had a hand in it.

    • Glenn Beck: Divine Providence works like this: You just try to do the right thing. You try to live your life. You're just trying to make the world a better place, but just with you. You're trying to do - and all of a sudden, you'll start to see people, you start gathering people. And then, you'll - somebody will say, did you see that? How did that happen? That's a miracle.

    • Glenn Beck: Manifest Destiny is less of walking humbly and praying for guidance. It's mission from God stuff. We're doing it whether you like it or not. Manifest Destiny...it was used to justify some unbelievably horrible things to people, such as (to) Native Americans.

    • HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI, D-CALIF.: On the subject of immigration, because I think the church is going to have to play a very major role in how we - how people are treated. The cardinals, the archbishop, the bishops that come to me and say, "We want you to pass immigration reform." And I say, "But I want you to speak about it from the pulpit. Some oppose immigration reform are sitting in those pews and you have to tell them that this is a manifestation of our living the gospel." GLENN BECK: OK. So, she wants them to talk about what is the right bill to pass. I'll get up from my church, and I will walk out when my church starts to tell me who to vote for or how to vote. I want my church to teach me correct principles and then I can figure it out. How do we treat each other? I don't want to hear about health care and how health care is social justice and how great it is for me to have health care - I don't want that. You know why? Because that's a mixing of church and state.

    • GLENN BECK: One of the president's spiritual advisers, Jim Wallis, he is also saying that Marxism basically is what Jesus was. UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE QUESTIONER: Are you then calling for the redistribution of wealth in society? JIM WALLIS, OBAMA SPIRITUAL ADVISER: Absolutely, without any hesitation. That's what the Gospel is all about. BECK: How? There couldn't be anything further from the truth. I've never felt charitable - I've never felt like I was serving God on April 15. I feel charitable when I give it. Jesus didn't say give all that money to Caesar and that person over there needs a coat, give all your money to Caesar and then he'll - Caesar will develop a program and buy that guy a pair of pants.

    • PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: My individual salvation is not going to come about without collective salvation for the country. My individual salvation rests on our collective salvation. My individual salvation always depends on collective salvation.

    • SEN. JOHN KERRY, D-MASS.: We have an electorate that doesn't always pay that much attention to what's going on. So, you know, people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than by the facts and the truth or what's happening.
