  • Willona seems to be dead set on keeping Penny's mind off of sex in any way possible. She explains to Florida her main reason for concern is because Penny's 13-year-old friend is pregnant, but Florida advises Willona to teach Penny about sex the right way

    • Florida: It's a sad thing when kids have to guess about sex because their parents are too scared to tell them the facts.

    • Florida: What is wrong with that woman? Doesn't she know that every year, 1 million teenaged girls get pregnant in the country? J.J.: Imagine how many get pregnant in the city. Florida: J.J., of that million, over 10,000 are 14 and under.

    • (Florida to Willona, at the end of their argument) Florida: Goodbye Mother Goose, old woman in the shoe! Ain't got but one child and still don't know what to do!

    • Florida: You're not gaining anything by letting Penny run around Chicago thinking that booster shots will keep her stomach down.

    • Florida: You know how J.J. is. Willona: Yeah, just like the two kids on the bus. Couldn't have been no more t han Penny's age, they were in the back seat hugging and kissing so fast and furious that if the bus driver put on the brakes, the bus could've coastered through town on pure friction! Florida: Well if parents would take the time to educate their kids about sex, they wouldn't have to cheapen it in the backseat of a bus. Willona: What parents? They teach sex in school now. Michael: They do? I'm going back for my extra credit. Florida: Michael! Michael: Just jiving, ma, just jiving. Florida: (to Willona) It's still the parents' responsibility.

    Notes (2)

    • This episode was videotaped on August 24, 1978.

    • The cast painting at the end of the credits in later episodes featured a group shot taken while the actors were in break filming this episode. Look at the clothes they were wearing, that tells you where that last shot came from.

    Trivia (2)

    • Florida reminds Willona of how skimpy she used to dress in high school, Willona acts as if high school is such a far time away for Penny. However, Willona says in this episode that Penny is 13, (although that can't be possible since Penny was 9 a year before,) if that is true, then high school would only be about a year away for her.

    • Goof: In this episode, Willona says that Penny is 13 years old. Penny hasn't been living with Willona a whole year by the time this episode was done, and she was just under 10 when Willona first adopted her.
