  • Episode Description
  • The family is getting ready to move to Mississippi which is where James has gotten a promising new job. However, the family is waiting for the right time to tell Bookman the news. Later, Willona throws a going-away party but the happiness is interrupted by heartbreaking news that James has been killed in a car accident.

    • This season-opener was videotaped on July 15, 1976.

    • J.J enters the scene wearing a fake bald cap.

    • It was reported on an E! True Hollywood Special about Norman Lear productions that this script was initially drafted for All in the Family when they were having problems with Carroll O'Connor and considered killing his character off. Since the problems with O'Connor were worked out, they adjusted the script to suit Good Times and use it kill off James Evans.

    • In an interesting sign of the times, Michael, who in previous years didn't really like girls, shows that he is maturing when he develops his first crush on a neighborhood girl.

    • This episode was videotaped on July 15, 1976.
