    • Bat Boy

      Near the end of the opening credits, a picture of a bald, screaming vampire-like creature is shown. This is a reference to "Bat Boy", a mysterious creature made famous by the defunct tabloid Weekly World News.

    • Title:

      Referencing the 1992 movie The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, which features a doctor's wife who loses her husband and her happily married life when a woman accuses her husband of sexual molestation. The wife infiltrates the woman's family posing as a nanny and sets out to destroy their life. The movie title in turn is based on the poem of the same name by William Ross Wallace.

    • Dancing Queen

      When Dipper flashes back to a moment where he sings in the bathroom, he sings "Disco Girl", a parody of "Dancing Queen". "Dancing Queen" is a pop song by the Swedish pop band, ABBA. The song was released in the 70's with the album, "Arrival".

    • Don't Stop Believin'

      When Mabel sings "Don't Start Unbelievin'", the song is a parody of "Don't Stop Believin'", a famous 80's song sung by American rock band, Journey.

    • Quentin Qumby riding a horse backwards is a classic joke from Dudley Do-Right how he always ride his horse backwards.

    • Title:

      Referencing the 2004 action adventure movie National Treasure, which features Benjamin Franklin Gates, a history and descendant of treasure hunters, who needs to obtain the Declaration of Independence to decipher a hidden code and find a vast hoard of treasure. The movie spawned a sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, in 2007.

    • Dolph Lundgren

      The time-paradox-avoidance enforcment officers are named Lolph and Dundgren. Their appearance is that of the soldiers in the movie Universal Soldier and they are named after actor Dolph Lundgren who starred in said movie.

    • Babe

      At the end of the episode, Dipper tells Waddles the pig "that'll do pig; that'll do". This is the line that Farmer Hogget says to Babe the pig in the movie Babe.
