    • Kitty: "He'll die a better man than you'll ever live to be."

    • "Matt, if you think they're not grateful. If you don't think they don't care. There is ten dollars on that table for every man, woman, and child in Dodge City," Kitty to Matt when she returns with $15,000 ransom money.

    Notes (4)

    • After 12 seasons as a staple on CBS' Saturday night lineup (airing at 10:00 ET/PT), Gunsmoke makes its debut in its new 7:30 Monday night timeslot, breathing new life into the series and leading to a ratings revival.

    • Buck Taylor and the Newly character are not in this episode. He makes his debut in "The Pillagers" (Nov. 6,1967)

    • This episode, and the entire 1967-1968 season almost never aired. The series had been canceled prior to the end of the 1966-67 season, but William S. Paley, the founder of CBS, reinstated the series (resulting in the cancellation of "Gilligan's Island". Buck Taylor's character Newly O' Brien, makes his debut in this episode.

    • Another very poignant moment. When Kitty goes to beg the town for the $15,000 ransom, Louie Pheeters asks her to let him deliver it for the only two friends he has in the world.
