  • Harriet (Kathy Bates), Adam and Malcolm are three very different people from completely different walks of life. After Harry is fired from her job as a patent lawyer, she encounters some strange occurrences which lead her to decide to open a new law firm. The location she chooses happens to be an abandoned shoe store. Adam, a lawyer from a big firm hears Harry has started her own practice so offers to help the new place get its feet off the ground. After only one case, he decides he wants to stay. Malcolm is a young man in his first year of law school whom Harry met during those strange occurrences after she was fired at the beginning of the show. Together with the help of Jenna, their assistant, they run Harry's Law and Fine Shoes. These folks were brought together by fate to serve the people of the neighborhood in which their business resides.moreless

    • Judge Marilyn Coulis: You'll be just fine. Your request is denied. You're going back in there.
Harriet: Wait a minute, it wasn't a request. I'm telling you I'm off.
Judge Marilyn Coulis: All right, Ms. Korn, the way it works is I get to do the telling. It's a perk of the Goth robes. I'm wearing them now.

    • Judge Marilyn Coulis: (to Harriet in jail) We don't know each other well. But I do know of you and I have followed the recent trajectory of your career with curiosity and, well, hope; when a lawyer walks away from a lucrative practice to perhaps do something more meaningful. Instead, one who commits career suicide, in of all places, my courtroom. I am recommending you for permanent disbarment - and it breaks my heart.

    • Harriet: (before the disbarment judges) Only question before you today is 'Will she ever pull this again?' I won't. Why? (looks at Tommy, Adam, Jenna and Malcolm) Well the truth is I've got too much to lose. The big irony here is I never loved the practice of law until now, after I began doing it in a shoe store with people I rather adore, people whose lives in part depend... I screwed up here – I admit. I'd like to use my mulligan. The practice of law, despite its many, many flaws, can still be a very noble thing and I like to think that it's just a little more noble with me in it. But, ah, that's your call.

    • Judge: Onward and upward, Ms. Korn, please. Adjourned.
Adam: You're like a cat, Harry. You get hit by cars, people fall on you from the sky, you tank trials – you're like a cat.
      Harriet: I must be.

    • Jenna: By the way, I've totally figured you out. Harry: Have you now. Jenna: Yes. You're a pretty bigot. You were probably picked on in high school by the pretty girls who giggled while you stood by the punch bowl waiting for some guy to ask you to dance. You have a thing against the pretties and I'm a pretty! Well, I can't help my looks, okay? You got to go with what God gives you and right now I can't go anywhere because I don't have a car! Harry: Okay, this just needs to be said. The girl is mentally challenged.

    • Jenna: When you got hit by Malcolm, who was there for you? When you got hit by Adam, who was there for you? Who is always there for you, always? Harry: God? Jenna: Me! Harry: Close.

    • Harry: Look, are you and I OK?
Marty: Yeah, why wouldn't we be?
Harry: You told me to go to hell.
Marty: Well, it's not like I won't be going there too. You know that better than anybody.

    • Adam: There is just something too enchanting about you not to find love again.
Amanda: You are a really kind man.
Adam: May I come to your final performance tonight?
Amanda: I'd like that. OK, onward and upward, right?
      Adam: Right.

    • Early on in the episode, the three lawyers - Harry, Adam, and Phoebe - are speaking to each other in the gymnasium in normal voices while the marching band is playing.
