  • show Description
  • Hollywood Television Theatre (HTT) is a drama series from the American Public Broadcasting Company that brings Broadway hits to television. The HTT production company films famous playwrights from the twentieth century, casting veteran and up-and-coming actors to play the lead roles. The season starts with the story of the on-and-off relationship between law student Paul Cunningham (Eli Wallach) and Sylvia Payton (Anne Jackson) in Murray Schisgal's, The Typist. Emmanuel Robles' play, Montserrat, is next in the series line-up, exemplifying Captain Montserrat's (Keir Dullea) role in the war between Spain and Bolivia. Julie Adams takes the lead in Six Characters In Search Of An Author, and Richard Chamberlain stars as Thomas Mendip in Christopher Fry's The Lady's Not For Burning. By mid-season, HTT focuses more on modern-day plays with a screening of Jerome Lawrence's Broadway hit, Actor, telling the story of Paul Muni's (Michael Kidd) homecoming trails after winning an Oscar. Bill Bixby takes the stage by the end of the season, playing the role of Tandy along with Stephen Elliott as the old-timer, in Bruce Jay Friedman's fantasy play, Steambath. PBS films all episodes in front of a live audience.moreless
