    • Hornblower: Sir, those men out there are dying. Don Massaredo: They are your enemies. Hornblower: The sea does not take sides, sir.

    • Don Massaredo: (upon giving Horatio word that he is to be set free) I wonder if their excellencies realize they're setting free a man who will doubtless be a thorn in their sides for many years to come. Hornblower: I shall endeavor not to disappoint them, sir.

    • The Duchess: After a night on Mr. Hornblower's rowboat I think I'd sleep easier on a perch in a parrot's cage.

    • The Duchess: Your Acting Lieutenant Hornblower is an extremely gallant and resourceful gentleman. Pellew: Is he? The Duchess: Mm-hmm. Pellew: I'm afraid he is no longer my acting lieutenant. (he throws the dispatches on the table in anger) As a result of exemplary gallentry in the fire ship attack on Gibraltar, an opinion confirmed by three captains, no less - captains who would not normally agree even on the colour of an orange. His promotion was confirmed in the last dispatches. He is now commissioned Lieutenant Hornblower.

    • Lieutenant Romero: I'm sure we will find a prison to keep you safe for the rest of the war. Styles: Don't bet on it, mate.

    Trivia (1)

    • After they row out to the Spanish ship, Horatio yells to the men in English. Since it has already been established that Archie speaks Spanish, he should have been calling out to them in thier own language.
