  • Episode Description
  • Lucy thinks she may have finally gotten her big break in Hollywood. It all centers on a posh party attended by studio execs. Ricky was invited to attend but begged off. But Lucy will fool 'em. She has a lifelike rubber replica of Ricky's head, which she'll attach to a dummy body — and she'll dance her way to stardom with "Raggedy Ricky."

    • Ethel: What are we going to tell Ricky? Fred: I maintain honesty is the best policy. Ethel: I know, but what are we going to tell Ricky?

    • (Fred and Ethel carry the dummy into the dressing room.) Lucy: Did you have much trouble? Ethel: A little. Fred: Well the guard at the gate wanted to smell his breath, but I talked him out of it.

    • Lucy: Do you think they'll know it's a dummy? Fred: Nobody but the audience. Lucy: Oh, didn't it fool you at all? Fred: Nope, the dummy is a better dancer than Ricky.

    • Ethel: Well what are you going to do, call up the studio and tell them you can't make it? Lucy: No, I can make it. I'll tell them Ricky can't make it. Ethel: They won't want you without Ricky. Lucy: Why do you say that? Ethel: Because it's the truth. Lucy: Well I know but why do you say it?

    • Lucy: If my mother wasn't living with us, I'd go home to her.

    Trivia (3)

    • The day after this episode aired, Frank Sinatra had people coming up to him saying that they saw him on I Love Lucy. He didn't know what they were talking about. It was because the people saw him in the clip from Guys and Dolls.

    • This episode includes the first discussion of Fred's problem with seasickness. At first he denies having it, but later when Ricky describes his fishing trip, Fred begins to get queasy. Fred's seasickness returns soon in the episode "Staten Island Ferry".

    • This episode when first aired ran 3 minutes short because it was edited to fit the time slot. Also during the episode the audience got to see a clip from the movie "Guys and Dolls." That evening, the audience saw a clip from Sam Goldwyn's upcoming film version of "Guys and Dolls"- Frank Sinatra's "Adelaide" number, just before Lucy was introduced dancing with "Raggedy Ricky". "Adelaide" was then deleted from all reissue prints of this episode.
