    • Ed: I thought you had this place all buttoned up.
Reese: I wanted to give you another chance to look it over. You were interested in the Delmar woman.
Ed: Alive to talk to, at her apartment.
Reese: The lab found a partial print on her earring. Not enough to put through the files but enough to tell us who it isn't.
      Ed: And whose isn't it?
Reese: Not the suspects. Not hers, either.
Ed: You called me over for that? Just what are you trying to tell me, Carl?
Reese: I don't know. I don't know, I thought maybe you could tell me something. You were trying to chase her down.
Ed: I'm not sure we can help. We were trying to check into a matter that had to do with Judge Van Buren.
      Reese: Judge Lawrence Van Buren?
      Ed: Yes.
Reese: He has a son, hasn't he? Lawrence Jr.
      Ed: That's right.
      Reese: And you can't help.
Ed: What are you getting at, Carl?
Reese: I'm getting to the fact that your pussyfooting around trying to cover up something that's what.
Ed: You know better than that.
      Reese: Do I?
