This episode's title is a reference to the Jon Krakauer book Into Thin Air which tells the story of a group of climbers who were killed by a freak storm while they attempted to climb Mt Everest. Krakauer and a few others made it to safety after waiting out the storm in temperatures of -60 deg F. In 1997 the book was adapted into a made for TV movie starring Peter Horton called Into Thin Air: Death on Everest.
