    Notes (13)

    • Even though this is the first movie, this is the fourth book in Robert B. Parker's Jesse Stone series, which exists in the same universe as Spenser: For Hire, whose pilot episode was an adaptation of the fourth book in that series.

    • The alternative titles for this movie are: Jesse Stone: Stone Cold and Robert B. Parker's Stone Cold.

    • Paradise, Massachusetts is supposedly a caricature of Marblehead, Massachusetts.

    • The character of Rita Fiore originated in the book version of Spenser: Pale Kings and Princes. In the series, Spenser: For Hire, Rita Fiore was portrayed by Carolyn McCormick and later by Laila Robins in Spenser: Small Vices.

    • Scott Wickware originally portrayed Captain Healy in Spenser: Small Vices.

    • While the movies are set in Paradise, MA, they're filmed on location in Halifax N.S. Canada.

    • Some of the scenes in the movie were changed around from the book so that they fit the movie so the story wasn't out of sequence.

    • In the book series Night Passage is a prequel to Stone Cold even though it's the second movie in the series.

    Trivia (4)

    • While Jesse is en route from California to Massachusetts, he stops west of St. Louis and calls his ex-wife from a phone booth outside an Irving gas station. Irving is a Maritime Canada chain, with some outlets in Maine.

    • Vincent Guastaferro had originally played Gino Fish in Spenser: Small Vices.

    • On the right shoulders of the police uniforms worn in Paradise are American flags with the blue fields with stars on the upper left. This is the standard and correct position of the flag when on the left shoulder. When the American flag is worn on the right shoulder the blue field with stars should be in the upper right corner.

    • When Jesse stops Terry Genest for following him, the driver's window is up about four inches; in the final shot (before Terry rolls window up) the glass is barely visible.
