God has Joan participate in the mock trial - of Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. Will investigates the disappearance of an 8 year old girl. Helen resumes her confirmation meetings with Lily, and learns all about confession, and does a little herself.
The mock trial God has Joan participate seems to give more of a direct consequence. It makes Will Girardi realises that the janitor was lying, and Joan finds out about Adam's cheating. I think the character development of Adam was really solifidied in this episode, because ultimately he became a lot more of a realistic 17 year old, whilst before he was idealised as this sensitive painter who did nothing but love Joan. It started with his being annoyed about not getting to have sex with Joan, and it would have been silly had that not been followed through. I really liked the fact that Grace finally got a voice in this episode. It was becoming a little unconvincing that she had all these passionate views and yet never felt compelled to confess any of them. Her sensitive response to the Adam-Joan situation was also moving.
An earthy, gritty episode that as usual brought one simple concept, this time 'confession', into three dimensional form as it was explored in lots of different ways. Not the most light-hearted or heartwarming JoA, but a good one nevertheless.moreless
