    • Kath: [Talking to Kim about going on a date] Oh I dunno, just out for a nice meal somewhere, somewhere a bit special, maybe Chinese. Kim: Not that special for 800 million Chinese! Kath: Oh zip your lip, Kim.

    • Kim: [To self] You couldn't ask for a better friend than Sharon. She's one of those people that make you feel better by just being around. You know, by comparison.

    • Kim: (yelling, intentionally so Kel hears) Don't forget your Wartoff, Mum! Kath: (quietly)You're a little B...

    • Kim: My marriage is over! O-V-A-H. Over!

    • (Kim is looking at herself in the mirror. Her stomach is sucked in and she has her chest puffed out) Kim: Brett thought I was just a boring housewife... Well he was wrong! Look at me! I'm a hornbag! (stops holding her stomach in as she flounces off with a pot belly)

    • Sharon: Kim, I think it's nice about your mum and Kel. Don't you think it's nice that she's got a boyfriend? Or are they day factos? Kim: Day facto, night facto... the fact that they're facto-ing at all I find repulsive in the extreme.

    • Kath: I like to keep myself trim, Kim. Does it make me a crim to keep myself trim?

    • Kim: You think Brett is the bees knees. Well let me tell you, mum, bees knees are hard to live with 24/7!

    Notes (69)

    • The characters of Kath, Kim and Sharon were originally developed in the early 1990s in a recurring skit in the comedy sketch show Big Girl's Blouse in 1994. These skits, a send-up of a fly-on-the-wall type reality TV series following a mother and daughter planning the daughter's wedding, continued to evolve in the short-lived comedy series Something Stupid (1998). The original skits rarely featured any characters other than Kath, Kim or Sharon (in one skit Brett was played by Jane Turner) and were the basis for the plots of the first two series.

    • Kath & Kim has gathered much critical acclaim since its debut, winning two Logie Awards, for "Outstanding Comedy Programme" and the "Best Television Drama Series" award at the Australian Film Institute Awards.

    • The show was originally derived from a segment in the third season (1991) of comedy sketch series Fast Forward, which was later revived as a recurring sketch in Big Girl's Blouse, (also created by Turner and Riley) which aired for just one season in 1994 on the Seven Network, and featured the primary characters of Kath and Kim, with the exception of Brett Craig and Kel Knight.[2][3]

    • The "Wine Time" epilogues that close most of the episodes are, for the most part, improvised by writers/creators/stars Jane Turner and Gina Riley.

    • Co-writer and star, Gina Riley sings the opening song title "The Joker Is Me".

    • The first episode of Kath & Kim shows how much Kath, Kim and Sharon have evolved from their prototypes shown many years before on Big Girl's Blouse

    • Cast members Magda Szubanski, Glenn Robbins, Gina Riley & Jane Turner are all ex-"Fast Forward" stars.

    Trivia (11)

    • Kath & Kim are supposed to live in the suburbs, however during 'Wine Time' the water can clearly be seen. Thus showing that they are not truly in the suburbs.

    • This is the first time that Glenn Robbins (Kel) and Peter Rowsthorn (Brett) appear in a scene together, although they have no lines with each other.

    • The main characters do their shopping at Fountain Gate Shopping Center, however in the first series all shopping scenes were filmed at Southland Shopping Center. In the second series the real Fountain Gate Shopping Center was used. Scenes were shot at both locations for the third series.

    • The episode begins with everyone celebrating New Year's Eve, but in Kel's toast he says that he and Kath have been married for one month. Their wedding was on September 18th, so one month later should actually be around October 18th, not New Year's Eve.

    • In this episode, every time Sharon talks about her boyfriend, Mark, she always points to her pash-rash.

    • Kath: What are you reading there, Kim? Kim: The Da Vinci Code, I'm reading it to Epponnee as a bedtime story. Kath: Oh, yes, I'm reading that, but I'm reading the abridged version. It's called the Eensie-Weensie Da Vinci Code. Kim: Mum, why is there barely any water in here? Kath: Well it's a drought Kim! Phase 2 at the moment! Kim: Oh, just fill it up -- I would! Kath: No Kim! The farmers! [quietly] Actually Kim, Kel did fill it up the other day but bozzo next door dobbed us in. Kim: So what are we sitting in now? Kath: This is grey water, it's washing up water. Kim: [takes sponge out of water and throws it on ground] Ewwww! Mum! Kath: Well Kim, that's what we're reduced to, thanks to -- [neighbour sticky-beaks] Oh yes! Having a good butcher's, are we? No, don't try and hide! We can see you! Kim: We can see you!

    • When Kath is talking on the phone to people in her Indonesian class, she says, "Baik-baik saja, tidak, business class" In Indonesian 'baik-baik saja' means 'just good' and 'tidak' means 'no'.

    • This episode uses the new opening theme song, used originally in Da Kath & Kim Code.

    • Sharon: You'll never guess who I was drinking with every night. You'll really appreciate this Kel. Shane Warne! This is a reference to the famous Australian cricket player Shane Warne

    • Sharon: (Sharon is reading a Shane Warne biography.)
Shane Warne is a famous Australian cricket player.

    • Kath: Hello you! Welcome back, Kotter! Don't you look terrific, Brett! Gabe Kotter is the lead character in the television series Welcome Back, Kotter.

    • Check-in Receptionist: I can't tell you exactly, but it seems to be GST related. Kel: Aww, Bloody Howard! John Howard, the current Prime Minister of Australia, enforced the law of GST.

    • Kath: It's like a cabbage patch, doll Whilst in this instance Kath is talking to Kel about cabbages and calling him doll, a 'Cabbage Patch Doll' was also a popular children's toy in the 80's and 90's.

    • The 'Here tis' sign on Sharon's bathroom door is a reference to a classic Fast Forward sketch parodying a Sorbent ad. In the ad, a boy was busting to go to the toilet (which had the 'Here tis' sign on it) but couldn't because his dad was inside taking such a long time. In the sketch, Madga Szubanski played the boy and she was so desperate to use the loo she eventually exploded.

    • Brett: (talking about Epponnee) She could be Prime Minister. Kim: I'm thinking bigger than that Brett - she could be on Neighbours! Neighbours is a long-running Australian soap, on Channel 10. It is possibly an in-joke that Kylie Minogue, who plays grown up Epponnee, is an ex neighbours star.

    • Kim: Where are we gonna fit all of Epponee's Logies? The Logies are awards for the Australian television industry.
