  • Episode Description
  • Bill's Arlen High School record for touchdowns is about to be broken, by Arlen's current football hero, Ricky Suggs. When Ricky breaks his leg, the other team allows him to score so he can get the record. Outraged by this bad sportsmanship, Hank convinces the Arlen High coach to let Bill (who never officially graduated from high school) play a game so he can get his record back.

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (5)

    • Dale: This record is all Bill's got. Should we rock-paper-scissors to see who keeps him from killing himself in the bathroom?

    • (Peggy runs into Ricky Suggs at the gym) Rick: Doctors say I'm out for the season. Peggy: Oh, what do doctors know? A doctor told me I might never walk again. Well, not only am I walking, I hear his marriage has gone south too.

    • Peggy: Poor Bill. He was living in his past and that boy has stolen it. Where is Bill supposed to live now?

    • (Hank is at a school board meeting) Hank: Mr. Chairman, I would like to respectfully submit that you put an asterisk next to Ricky Suggs's name in the record book. And that asterisk should read: "This record was attained through the use of fraud and bad sportsmanship." Eustis: That motion is denied, Mr. Hill. Ricky Suggs is an inspiration to us all. Now on to more important matters: My motion to add "fatty fatty boom-balatty" to the list of unacceptable hate speech.

    • Hank: Ok, then. Hit the showers. Bill: Too tired. Hank: I'll get the hose.

    Notes (2)

    • The song that the radio plays is "We Are The Champions" by Queen. The song during the flashback is "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath.

    • Bill Dauterive's loss of the record to Ricky Suggs is a real-life parody of the Nykesha Sales case. Nykesha Sales was injured in a collegiate game, and was allowed a lay up the next game by the Villanova University. This allowed her to break the all-time career scorer record in the 1997-98 season.

    Trivia (3)

    • Whilst Bill is practicing football in Hank's yard there is an aerial shot that shows Bobby & Hank walking towards Dale & Boomhauer and are close to them. In the following shot they are quite a bit further away from their previous position. Also the position of Dale & Boomhauer next to the garage changes between shots.

    • In no other episode before or after this does Bill have a shelf on the wall where the ball was. Obviously it was used for just the sake of the plot of this episode.

    • The tagline for this episode is a clip of Bill stammering unintelligibly at a football game.

    Allusions (1)

    • The song that is mentioned as the new song is "Candle in the Wind" which was a song written by Elton John, originally for the Marilyn Monroe after she died. He did a new version for Princess Diana, which is why Bill asks which version.
