  • I did like the fact that they introduced a gay character however it was played more for camp and stereotypes.

  • Quotes (10)

    • Dale: I loved my father like a father, and he betrayed me like a betrayer!

    • Nancy: The only people who know about the affair are me, John Redcorn, and God. And you. And Hank. And Bill, and Boomhauer, and possibly Bobby. Oh, and of course John Redcorn's sister -- she's got a mouth on her.

    • Bill: I don't get it. Why would Bug be in a gay rodeo? Hank: Well, the guy's 60 -- maybe he couldn't cut it on the regular circuit. It's like those guys who have to play European basketball, or Canadian football.

    • Joseph (dressed as an Indian) Check it out, Dad! I'm John Redcorn! Dale: I don't see it.

    • Bug: I'm not the man you think I am. My rodeo is a gay rodeo. Dale: Why would a confirmed bachelor such as yourself work at a gay rodeo?

    Notes (4)

    • During the flashback at Dale's wedding, the song playing in the background is "Carry on Wayward Son" by Kansas. The song that the people are dancing to at the gay rodeo when Hank is there is "Y.M.C.A." by Village People. The song at the rewedding is "Can't Fight This Feeling" by REO¬†Speedwagon.

    • This episode was nominated for the 2003 WGA Award (TV) for Animation.

    • This episode was nominated for the 2003 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Individual Episode (In a Series Without a Regular Gay Character).

    • Charles Nelson Reilly voiced the part of Bug in the original storyline. In this version, Dale suffers from a toothache and refuses to go to a dentist, fearing a tracking device would be implanted in him by his father's cohorts. Most of the episode's events, like Hank going to the rodeo, remain the same, but the ending is different in that Bug, feeling Dale would reject him if he told the truth, covers his sexuality by explaining he is monitoring the gay rodeo's activities. Relieved, Dale has his father hold his hand while he goes to the dentist. After the script was re-written, David Herman was hired to do Bug's voice.

    Trivia (5)

    • The depiction of Dale's father contradicts an earlier appearances in a flashbacks in "The Order of the Straight Arrow" and "Now Who's the Dummy?", in which he looks and sounds like an older version of Dale.

    • Luanne does not appear in this episode.

    • Tagline: "Monkey-style! Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!" -Dale

    • Dale says "John Redcorn's gay and I've been friends with him for years". Dale first made mention of his thoughts of Redcorn being gay back in Season 4's "Nancy Boys".

    • While discussing the Gay rodeo with Bug, Dale uses the term confirmed bachelor which is an outdated euphemism for a homosexual man. Dale does not seem to realize this and uses the term in a more literal sense to describe his dad and creates a kind of double irony.
