  • show Description
  • Lavender Castle is a computer animated children's series of 10-minute adventures created by Gerry Anderson, best known for creating Supermarionation shows such as Stingray, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. The series is about a group of funny creatures in their ship, the Paradox, a 17th Century thatched cottage, searching the universe for the legendary Lavender Castle, a floating city in deep space and the greatest source of power in the universe. The crew are as follows: Captain Thrice: The captain of the Paradox. He has a third eye in his nose. Walking Stick: Captain Thrice's walking stick, which was brought to life by the power of Lavender Castle. Roger: The Pilot of the Paradox who comes from the planet Australia. Isambard: The engineer of the Paradox who comes from the plant Scotland. Lyca: A butterfly-being from the planet Flora who acts as the ship's doctor. Sir Squeakalot: The Paradox's robot who acts as a servant to the crew. Sproggle: The cute-but-oh-so-incompetent Navigator of the Paradox (who uses a telescope the wrong way round). He was originally an orphan but was taken up by Captain Thrice. However, the evil Dr. Cedric Agon plans to destroy Lavender Castle before the Paradox crew can find it. Other villains include pirate Short Fred Ledd. Each episode opened with this monologue spoken by Captain Thrice: "Lavender Castle, the place of legend, fabled right across the universe. This is our quest: to find it!"moreless

    • Sproggle: Ho - Sproggle don't want to be chickbone!

    • Short Fred Ledd: What shall we do with the crew of the Paradox? What shall we do with the crew of the Paradox? What shall we do with the crew of the Paradox? They'll all be dead by mornin'.

    • Dr. Agon: This is how it is always going to be, Thrice - you grovelling at my feet!

    • Captain Thrice: Oh dear. He must have wanted that dog so much that he's imagining things!

    Notes (6)

    • The television programme watched by Roger and Isambard is Gerry Anderson's 1986 stop-motion animation series Dick Spanner.

    • The title of this episode is a play on the Indiana Jones film Raiders of the Lost Ark.

    • This episode title is a play on the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever.

    • A second series of Lavender Castle was planned but was axed due to creative difficulties.

    • The Paradox crew only appear in the flashback material.

    • This episode features flashback material from Brightonia on Sea, The Collector and Duelling Banjos. Interestingly, as it is the last episode and a flashback episode, it is like Aquanaut of the Year, Security Hazard, The Inquisition and The Birthday, the last episodes of Gerry Anderson's series Stingray, Thunderbirds (Series 1), Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and Joe 90.
