    • Kahlan: Not me, it is the prophecy. Zedd: Prophecy be damned! I averted the prophecy when I brought him here, until you opened a nice little door into the boundary and said, "Right this way to the Seeker, ladies and gentlemen!"

    • Kahlan: (to Zedd) Now take me to the Seeker. Zedd: He's here. Kahlan: Him? But... But he's... Zedd: What? Not good enough? You wanted a Seeker, there he is. If he's not up to your standard, well, that's fine by me. Find yourself another.

    • Richard: (about Darken Rahl's army) And I'm supposed to fight them, alone? Zedd: What do we look like boy, grilled sardines?

    • Zedd: Lesson Number One, Seeker: Sometimes to gain ground you need to slow down. Richard: That doesn't make sense. Kahlan: Never expect sense from a wizard. Zedd: Especially a hungry one. I'm not good on an empty stomach.

    • Kahlan: (after Richard has destroyed the Book of Counted Shadows) But what about all the secrets the book was said to contain? How will he defeat Rahl without knowing them? Zedd: Well, it appears the Seeker's quest isn't going to come with an instruction manual.

    • Richard: (hunting a rabbit) He's getting away! Kahlan: Whose fault is that? Richard: I said wait for my signal, then flush him out. Kahlan: I waited, he didn't. (Zedd shoots fire at the rabbit, completely obliterating it) Zedd: Did I get it?

    • (Sebastian is selling the third identical map to track the Seeker) Bounty Hunter: This will take me to the Seeker? Sebastian: Yes. It's a one-of-a-kind item, and as my best customer, I wanted to give you first chance at it.

    • Kahlan: We should get going soon. Richard: Oh, come on, what's the hurry? Kahlan: If you're going to need to rescue every damsel in distress, there's no time to waste.

    Trivia (37)

    • In this episode, Kahlan tells Richard she is a Confessor. In the book, "Wizard's First Rule", she refuses to tell Richard this until they are well into the Midlands.

    • In the book "Wizard's First Rule", the Book of Counted Shadows has already been destroyed and now only exists in Richard's mind, as his father forced him to memorize it. Kahlan is already the Mother Confessor at the start of the book, which is symbolized by the fact that she wears a white dress, and Richard's father, George, is already dead. In the book, Richard is attacked by the snake vine prior to meeting Kahlan. In the book, Kahlan Amnell's eyes are famously green. Terry Goodkind constantly references that. The actress playing her in the series, Bridget Regan's eyes are remarkably blue. Also, Kahlan is unarmed in the book until given a knife by Chase. In this episode, Kahlan is dismissive and distrustful of Richard, even after the attack at the cliff. In the book, she is very grateful, even shocked, by Richard's intervention, and is happy to have him escort her to Hartland. This is helped by the fact that Richard only asks her once how they defeated the men at the cliff and then decides to let it go when it is obvious she doesn't want to tell him. The scene at the cliff is actually very true to the book. In the book, all the men of the quad that attacks at the cliff are killed; whereas here, the leader, Rannsyn Fain, somehow survives.

    • Although not stated on the show, in the books Chase's full name is Dell Brandstone.

    • Book Difference: In the books, Richard does not only know Zedd as a crazy old man with whom he never speaks but instead Zedd is a friend and even a kind of mentor to Richard.

The character Fain does not exist as he does in the show. The Quads are a nameless unit that is killed at the start of the book when Richard finds Kahlan. In the book it is Rahl, not Fain that kills Richard's father. There is no artillery that brings down the barrier in the book. Instead the magic is gradually fading. In addition, the group makes their way through the barrier not do to a breach, but to through a secret path which Adie helps guide them through. Richard's bone necklace is key to this. In the book, the night wisp Shar doesn't die stopping an arrow, but instead is killed by being away from her homeland even though she knows that finding the Seeker will be a suicide mission.

    • Zedd never warns Richard about caring for Kahlan in the book. Instead, he warns Kahlan to never use her power on Richard. Also, in the book, Richard is the one that figures out that Chase would know a way through the boundary. Here Richard is specifically told that he will use the Sword of Truth to kill Darken Rahl. In the book, Zedd directly tells him that he can NOT use the Sword to kill Darken Rahl. The scene where Kahlan acquires her traveling clothes is very true to the book, where she got her clothes and a knife from Chase's house. During the final fight scene, we see men on horses advance with the D'Harans towards the opening in the Boundary. However, no cavalrymen make it through to the other side. This would be consistent with the first two episodes though, as we never see anyone ride a horse through the Boundary. Both times Ransynn Fain approached the Boundary, he got off his horse and went by foot.

    • During the big battle at the end of the episode, Kahlan's outfit changes from the one she was wearing when the battle started that Chase's daughter makes her to her white robes.

    • This story does not appear in the book. The Skarin however are mentioned as chasing the group near the border.

    • Lesson 15: In honoring what others most honor, the Seeker shall win their hearts.

    Allusions (1)

    • Kahlan: What color are my eyes? This is a creative allusion by the writers to the fact that Bridget Regan has blue eyes, while the Kahlan Amnell of the books has famously green eyes.
