    • Jenn: (of Reverend Hammond) That man is a born activist; if there's nothing to protest, he's out of work.

    • Charles: Cassie, what I'm trying to say is, I don't wanna be your friend, I want to be more than that. I like you Cassie. Cassie: Okay, is this you talking or the beer? Charles: I know what I'm saying, and I'm not drunk. (she grins at him) Okay, maybe a little. (she laughs) But I still like you, a lot.

    • Manolo: A little bleeding and you cry like a girl? Man, you're N.A.T.O., man – No Action, Talk Only.

    • Cassie: She's afraid he'll reject her. Charles: He won't. See the way he's looking at her? He's got feelings for her too. Cassie: How could she be certain? Charles:It's in his eyes. Eventually they'll find the courage to tell each other how they feel. Cassie: And their hearts will open like cherry blossoms in the spring. (pauses for a moment) Or, he'll tell her he's gay.

    • David: Easy, Eddie, this whole thing has been a huge misunderstanding. Eddie: You're damn right it has. You misunderstood when you thought you could mess with me and mine and get away with it!

    • Eddie: So are you saying we all should become bad guys? Mulaney: Being a good guy hasn't exactly been a growth business.

    • Eddie: What do you think? Det Wilkes: I think we're looking at a worst case scenario. Eddie: Which is? Det Wilkes: A guy with nothing left to lose.

    • Jenn: You didn't happen to bump into a particular cop, Eddie Sutton? EMT: After a while they all start to look alike.

    Trivia (7)

    • Cassie in one scene is wearing a yellow tank top with a blue one underneath it. The next scene Cassie is in has the blue one on top, and the yellow tank top underneath. Both scenes have her in the same skirt and belt, and it's the same day at school.

    • Eddie's badge number is 358.

    • Goof: Just before beginning to suture the doctor's wound, Jenn uses her cell phone to speak with Eddie. She does not change her gloves after the call, violating sterile technique, something any nurse – especially a nurse practitioner – would know.

    • Lizzie's Poem: I may not have a rhyme, But there's always a reason to speak on this chick No matter the season I know a girl with mad style and grace One smile from her can light up any dark place If I've got good news or been hurt by someone Her room is always the first place I run I revolve around her, in my world she's the sun She's like a mosaic with all its layers and hues She can get lost for hours in her grays and her blues She can paint you her dreams using colors so bright Then listen to secrets in the darkness of night I look up to this… she It's who I'd like to be You can try to defeat her, but she'll always stand tall She's a Sutton girl, and we're the best, after all

    • This is the first time Cassie and Charles have kissed since "The Feeling That We Have."

    • Johnny Nightingale dies in this episode.

    Allusions (2)

    • Book: The Old Man and the Sea This episode's title, "The Old Man And The G," seems to pay homage to the novel by Ernest Hemingway. The book was turned into a film in 1958, starring Spencer Tracy.

    • Title: "An Eye for an Eye" A phrase ("eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, limb for a limb") used to describe the philosophy of punishment in the Code of Hammurabi. The code, created sometime in 1700-1800 BC, was given to the King by the God's of Babylon. Hammurabi then set them in stone to show they were unchangeable. The crimes and punishments are quite specific, and tend to match the punishment to the offense: loss of surgical hand for loss of patient's life, loss of breast for a wet nurse who switched babies, etc.
