  • show Description
  • Little Bill is the story of the Glover family, told through the viewpoint of the youngest son, Bill Glover Jr., affectionately known as Little Bill. Little Bill lives with his mother, Brenda, a photographer, Big Bill, a housing inspector for the city, his two older siblings, April and Bobby, and Brenda's grandmother, known as Alice The Great. Each episode usually consists of two stories showing Little Bill's home life or at school, illustrating the usual goings-on of a five year old's life. At the end of the show, Little Bill usually addresses the audience, recapping what happened to him and what he learned that day, prompting one of his other family members to ask, "Little Bill, who are you talking to?" Note: Little Bill is loosely based on the life of creator Bill Cosby, who was most likely referred to as Little Bill as a child since his name is William Henry Cosby, Jr. In real life, however, Dr. Cosby is the oldest of four brothers, not the youngest of three children. Congratulations to Little Bill, winner of 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program - Gregory Hines and Outstanding Children's Animated Program.moreless

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (37)

    • Little Bill: Where's Fuschia, Uncle Al? Uncle Al: She's at the Haunted Halloween Party with Aunt Vanessa. You should go too, if you dare. (chuckles) Big Bill: We're not afraid. We have Captain Brainstorm to protect us. Isn't that right, Little Bill?

    • Little Bill: Halloween? But I don't have a Captain Brainstorm costume. Hmm. "There's got to be another way."

    • Bobby: It's almost time to go trick-or-treating. Little Bill: I'm not going. Bobby: Not going?! What are you talking about? It's Halloween. You can't just skip Halloween. Think of the candy you'll be missing.

    • Aunt Vanessa: Oh, here we go, Little Bill. You can go as a... gnome? Little Bill: What's a gnome?

    • Little Bill: Prepare to blast-off for the best Halloween ever!

    • Little Bill: I hear someone downstairs! Maybe it's Santa! Bobby: Come on! Let's sneak up on him!

    • Alice the Great's Christmas Song: Still is the evening, the snow softly falling Candles are glowing It's Christmas Star gently shining, high up on the treetop Bringing our family together And as you sleep and dream through the night I know in my heart I'm soon coming home Christmas star bring our family together

    • Little Bill: Bobby, when you went camping before, did a bear ever eat you? Bobby: Would I be here raking the leaves if one did?

    Notes (25)

    • The closing credits include the note "We Wish to Thank The Acorn School."

    • David Burger, one of the editors for this special, is credited as "Duke" David Burger.

    • Xavier Pritchett, Ruby Dee, Phylicia Rashad and the late Gregory Hines receive "Featuring As" credits.

    • Though many children's shows featuring African-American characters choose to focus on Kwanzaa as a holiday, this episode does not. The Glover family celebrates only Christmas and no mention is made of Kwanzaa.

    • Kathy Najimy takes over the role of Mrs. Shapiro once voiced by the late-great comedienne and friend of Bill Cosby, Madeline Kahn.

    • This episode is "Dedicated To The Memory of Madeline Kahn," since this was the only appearance she made in this role and passed away shortly afterwards in December 1999.

    • Brenda wears a tasteful grey suit to the wedding instead of her usually colorful outfit.

    • We learn Miss Murray's first name is Aisha.

    Trivia (23)

    • Little Bill dresses up wearing a homemade Captain Brainstorm costume; Bobby is Sherlock Holmes; April is a firefighter; Andrew is a vampire; Mr. Rojas is a pirate with his dog Lito as first mate; Kiku is an alien; Uncle Al is a skeleton; Fucshia is a lion; Brenda is a cat; and Monty is a dinosaur.

    • After the closing credits on the Space Explorers show roll in "The Best Way to Play," the television set goes completely dark and silent, as if it has either been turned off or the station itself has gone dark. Yet soon after Little Bill and his friends set to talking amongst themselves, an advertisement for the Space Explorers game flashes on the television. After this, the set once again goes completely dark and silent.

    • "The Treasure Hunt" features the tune "Dizzy Atmosphere" by Dizzy Gillespie, courtesy of Universal Music Group.

    • When Brenda pulls her car up to park in front of the pet store, it's facing as if she were driving on the left side of the road. Either Mr. Percy's pet store is on a one way street, or the animator was from England.

    • While Kiku and Bill are making the Moby Kite, Kiku contributes her necktie to be used for the kite's tail, but when we see them start to fly the kite, Kiku is wearing her tie again, yet the kite still has the tail. How can it be in two places at once?

    • I think this program must be animated either in England or Japan, because the artists keep forgetting that cars in the US go down the RIGHT side of the road, not the left. When the camera pans back after the family has finished the park to show the road and Al's store behind them, a truck goes down the street on the right side of the road, but just a minute later, a motorcycle and a car go down the same street, and they're driving on the left side, each going in opposite directions to illustrate that it's a two way street. Which ones are going the wrong way, and shouldn't the truck that took off before have crashed into the motorcycle?

    • When Big Bill and Little Bill get on the bus to go to work, they're standing on the left side of the street, and board the bus on that side. But buses in the US have the entrance doors on the right side of the vehicle, so the bus should have either been headed the other direction down the street, or they should have been on the right side of the road.

    • Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood had a similar issue like the one in this episode when Daniel Striped Tiger was invited to be a ring bearer in a wedding and also misheard and thought he had to wear a bear suit, just like Little Bill did.
