  • Hurley: You don't wait with warnings. You warn!

  • Jack: Put the guns down. Miles: Now why would I do that? Jack: Because our friends are out in the jungle right holding a gun at your head and his head, so I'm gonna forget about the misunderstanding, just put the guns down! Miles: Come on, how stupid do you think I- (Several shots ring out, and Juliet and Sayid come out the bushes with guns aimed at Miles and Daniel. Kate grabs Daniel's gun and aims it at him, but Miles continues to hold him) Jack: I don't know, Miles. How stupid are you?

  • Juliet: We were worried when you didn't get back, so we went to the cockpit and tracked you down. Jack: Thanks for that, for what it's worth. Kate: Somebody could've told me the cavalary were here. Jack: I gave you that..wink. (Jack and Juliet look amused.)

  • Ben: I know it's not pleasant but, let's face it, you really don't stand a chance now... Sawyer: Chance of what? Ben: James. Look at yourself. Yes, on this Island you're brave, daring, handsome, you're someone, but if you left with them, back in the real world a low-life scam artist like you could never compete with a first class surgeon. I think Kate was really upset when you made your choice to come with us. Thank God she has Jack there to comfort... (Sawyer attacks Ben)

  • Ben: Mind if I ask you a question, James? Sawyer: Yeah I do. Ben: Why'd you leave Kate behind? Sawyer: Wasting your time, Yoda.

  • Dan: Miles, Miles, hey hey hey, what you doing? What are you doing? These are good people. Miles: Then why'd Naomi use the damn code? Yeah, you remember when she said tell my sister I love her, well she doesn't have a sister. That's what we're supposed to say if we get captured, have a gun to our heads. Like right now, Jack here would say tell my sister I love her, you get it? Jack: We didn't kill your friend. Miles: Then take me to her body. Dan: Miles, what about Charlotte, what about Frank? Miles: Take me to Naomi!

  • Number 15: The number 15 can be seen on a poster in the room Miles visits in his flashback.

  • When Miles heads up the stairs to have his discussion with the ghost, the pictures on the wall can be seen in wooden frames. When Miles comes back down the stairs, the frames of the pictures have changed to (synthetic) brass. Additionally, the picture the camera centers on is bigger in the second scene. It also appears that the photos surrounding the focal point photo have also changed. Most notably the photo to the left of the focal point photo, the one that shows a young man entering a car, appears to be something completely different.

  • The Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 Hotline Number 1-888-548-0034 is seen on Frank's television. Calling this number results in an automated message, not a human operator as seen on the show.

  • When Jack and friends are helping Frank Lapidus after he passed out, a big piece of grass is stuck to the cut on his head. The camera cuts to the other side of Frank's face, and when it pans back the grass is gone, yet it has been a fraction of a second.

Allusions (8)

  • Monster: When the group first see Miles lying motionless near his parachute the shot resembles the classic 1963 movie adaptation of Lord of the Flies by William Golding when the shipwrecked children first spot their island's monster.

  • Essex The town where Daniel lives is named Essex and Charlotte lives in a county named Essex. Essex is also a reference to a famous whaling ship that was launched off the coast of Nantucket in 1819. The mission of the ship was to hunt sperm whales in the South Pacific. The ship sank and the crew ended up on an uninhabited island in the Pitcairn chain, where they fed on birds, fruits and vegetation, as well as water from a local freshwater spring, before resorting to cannibalism. The surviving members of the crew were rescued on Day 93. The story is the inspiration for Herman Melville's "Moby Dick".

  • Star Wars Daniel tells Kate and Jack, "I'm here to rescue you", exactly like what Luke says to Leia in the 1977 film "Star Wars".

  • Miles. Miles is a character in Henry James's The Turn of the Screw who communicates with a dead person who appears throughout the story. In this episode, Miles is shown to communicate with the dead.

  • Locke says Ben has no power except his voice. Gandalf made the same comment about Saruman after removing him from power in Lord of the Rings.

  • Sawyer: You're wastin' your time, Yoda. Sawyer calls Ben Yoda on a clear reference to Star Wars series' character Yoda, who is introduced for the first time on the Star Wars movies while living in a hut in a jungle, much similar to what Ben looks in this specific take.

  • Apocalypse Now Sawyer asks Locke where he is getting his orders from and then refers to him as "Colonel Kurtz." This is a reference to Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 Vietnam epic Apocalypse Now, as well as the novel it is loosely based on, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Kurtz was a renegade Green Beret who became insane and stopped taking orders from the military. He is played by a bald Marlon Brando in the film.

  • The character Charlotte Staples Lewis' name is derived from the late Clives Staples Lewis, better known as C.S. Lewis, the late Irish author and scholar known for his writings on Christian apologetics, and most famously, the children's series The Chronicles of Narnia.
