Plenty of action and a solid stunt help this episode overcome some of the goofier moments in its plot.
Mayim Bialik has a charismatic presence that was quickly evident in this, the first of three Lisa Woodman episodes set in Switzerland. The storyline here was intriguing, featuring the Phoenix Foundation playing peacemaker and trying to negotiate a treaty between two long-warring nations in the Middle East. The episode is universally entertaining, but there are few flaws that always manage to get under my skin. I suppose one could say it would be a reflex for MacGyver to catch the rifle thrown at him, but wouldn't a guy as smart as MacGyver realize they would only be throwing him a rifle to frame him for the attempted assassination? Furthermore, MacGyver leaving the blood-stained scarf laying on the periphery of the woods seemed uncharacteristically sloppy, the dialogue with Lisa during the speedboat ride was kind of dorky, and the climactic explosion scene looked very B-movie-ish. With all that said, the action was solid and steady throughout, and the midair gondola-jumping scene was a classic MacGyver stunt that took full advantage of the series' unique Vancouver setting. This was another episode that seemed to indicate a greater emphasis on adventure in the fifth season, which was certainly welcome.moreless
