Quotes (15)

  • Pete: Chu. I mean Commissioner Chu. Chu: Don't be inscrutable with me, Peter. It's good to see you again.

  • MacGyver: What's it gonna take? What's the price? Racoubian: You know what trade I deal in. What could you possibly offer me? I know you won't betray your country's security. MacGyver: You got that straight.

  • Racoubian: I like you, MacGyver, but I can't let them go. As for glasnost, I don't agree with the current Soviet administration, this new openness. Weak. Foolish. Impractical. MacGyver: And you think killing three people is more practical. That's amazing.

  • Jack: You know, friends, I come from a long line of magicians. My father used to walk down the street and turn into a saloon.

  • MacGyver: Why do you want out? Kossov: I was two years in a prison camp. I learned one thing, MacGyver: to cherish freedom.

  • MacGyver: People change. Kossov is here with the Soviet delegation to the exposition. He's not KGB, and maybe not the guy I tangled with in Budapest. Pete: You love her, so you're buying him. Is that it?

  • Lisa: My husband's name is… Nicholai Kossov. MacGyver: Kossov? Major Nicholai Kossov? I know him. I escaped from him in Hungary.

  • Jack: It's a lousy piece of fate, but you're not responsible. Come on, Mac. We all have our ghosts. MacGyver: Yeah, but we don't all see ‘em walkin' by.

Trivia (1)

  • At the exhibit hall, Pete says that there's no evidence of foul play in the security guard's death in the teaser. Three roundhouse kicks to the face would show up in any competent autopsy, much less one conducted by the Phoenix Foundation. A three-story fall wouldn't cover up the injuries.

Allusions (1)

  • Jack's comment "This is supposed to be magic, not 'Who's on first?'" references the classic vaudeville Abbott & Costello comedy routine. The comedy duo first performed the routine during a tour in 1937, went on to do it on radio on The Kate Smith Hour in March 1938, and performed it in their movie debut in One Night in the Tropics (1940). They also performed the routine in The Naughty Nineties (1945) in what is considered their finest recorded rendition. The routine is based off the confusion caused by a baseball team where all of the players have names that are questions (Who, What, I Don't Know, Why, Because, Tomorrow, Today). Abbott tries to explain that Who is the first baseman, confusing Costello who keeps asking "Who's on first?" and being told "Yes."
