At Close Range
This was probably the best as well as last of the Murdoc episode. Murdoc has always been one of the best villans ever due to how crafty he is and I'm sad to see him go but like most great villians he served his purpose well and it's time to go.
This episode I thought was great not entirely perfect I'll get to that issue latter. One of the interesting things about the episode is this isn't so much a MacGyver episode at all but more of Murdoc's story.
What's great about it is there is a double layered suspense element in it, where were one step ahead of Macguyver where we see most of this episode in Murdoc's perspective you can't help but share in that feeling of antisipation hopping to kill Mac sucessfully and were just hoping that Macguyver will either be able to avoid the trap or outsmart Murdoc.
Macgyver's amnesia is just a achilles heel device to disable him which makes the stakes even higher. Even the fact that the two are in camping ground as an arena of battle makes things all the more dangerous because out in the woods it is isolating and there is no one out there for miles to help you.
Though there was only two things I felt held the episode back for total perfection. One thing I didn't really care aobut that subplot with both the mom and daughter whom were obviously hiding out from trouble, I thought that was kinda cleche and unneeded. But then again it just helped with the suspense have innocent lives in danger where one trust the right person and the other trust that wrong, the daughter character I'll admit was real smart she had good instincts trusting MacGyver.
Another thing was the fact that Mac suddenly got his memory back in the mine, that wasn't very realistic and that final fight was a little too short it should of been longer. But still it was really all about the chase despite the end result.
Despite what happens to Murdoc, like all great villians they never die, they tend to fail because they miss the target at close range but they can always reload.moreless
My second favorite Murdoc episode and the series' last masterpiece episode.
MacGyver kept us waiting until April for season six's Murdoc episode (was anybody else starting to get really nervous they wouldn't have a Murdoc episode this season?), but it was definitely worth the wait. The episode's strongest parts were in the opening scenes. The scene with HIT was derivative of the opening scence of season one's "Deathlock", but it actually improved upon that episode's example with some visuals that were almost otherworldly and very much in keeping with HIT's murky reputation. Scriptwriter John Sheppard succeeded in the seemingly impossible again, convincing the viewer in "Halloween Knights" of a Murdoc/MacGyver partnership, and then credibly convincing us of Murdoc's return to supervillain status again in this outing. The scene in MacGyver's houseboat was classic and laid the stage for the remainder of the episode, which wasn't as astounding as the opening, but still very strong. I was a little taken aback by the amnesia theme, as that's an almost guaranteed cheesefest. It was to a certain extent here too (MacGyver's memory returns all at once in the mine tunnel at the very end??? Yeah right!) but it allowed for some intriguing role reversals for MacGyver and Murdoc that played out nicely. It was more than a little hard to believe that Murdoc was able to construct the masterpiece that he did in the mine tunnel in the few minutes that it took MacGyver to catch up with them, but you always have to suspend your disbelief just a little more than usual on Murdoc episodes. It was blatantly obvious from the second they entered the tunnel that Murdoc would once again fall to his death in the mine shaft, but it was fun getting to that point, and the epilogue ended in the typically eerie way that Murdoc episodes always do. A very solid episode and a badly needed dose of Murdoc.moreless
Another Murdoc episode. I don't know how anyone can get tired of these episodes. Murdoc always finds away to get under MacGyver's skin and then MacGyver always defeats Murdoc. In this episode Murdoc wants to join up with that assassin gruop called HITT again but he has to kill MacGyver first. Of course it doesn't work. macgyver suffers from amnesia, but He regains his memeory while fighting Murdoc. Well, like every episode Murdoc 'Dies'. This was a very good episode and in my opinion the best of season 6. All the actors did a very great job. I can't wait for the next Murdoc episode. later...moreless
