  • Magic Years in Sports is a documentary series that profiles extraordinary sports achievements from memorable years. ESPN digs into their film archives and asks former NFL hall-of-fame player, Lynn Swann, to present them with help from pro-athlete Roy Campanella. The season starts with the year "1947" and Jackie Robinson becomes the first African-American baseball player. Robinson takes the Brooklyn Dodgers to the World Series, but fails to capture the world title after his team loses to the NY Yankees. The heavyweight championship fight between Joe Louis and Jersey Joe Walcott, and PGA player Lew Worsham's Cinderella-story win at the U.S. Open, also play in the first episode. The year "1936" appears later in the season with a defiant Jesse Owens showing Adolph Hitler that other races can compete at professional levels. There is also footage of the first and only boxing match at Yankee Stadium in the "1936" episode. Swan and Campanella profile the sport tragedy at the 72 Olympics in Munich and the Green Bay Packer's miracle win in the 1968 Super Bowl. By the end of the season, years in international sport competitions come into focus with the hosts showcasing the 1958 FIFA World Cup, and Pele, the soccer player who scored the most goals in the history of the game, making his international sports debut.moreless
