    • Margaret: He reminds me of an old Raggedy Ann doll I had as a child. I'd kick it, pull out its eyes, yell at it, ignore it, and then when I lost it I'd cry for days. Charles: I know exactly how you felt; I once had the same experience with a butler.

    • Klinger: (mocking Major Van Kirk) Lousy Commies! We've had two [generators] swiped here already! Do I hear THREE?

    • (Radar refuses to leave MASH) Hawkeye: We all wait for that day! We dream about it! We pray for it! We'd sacrifice a virgin if we could find one! How dare you!! Radar: I'm sorry, there's too much around here I gotta do! Hawkeye: No no no no, you're not pulling that tripe on me! They've been holding wars long before you signed up, and the fun'll continue long after you leave! Let me put this as gracefully as I can: We don't need you! Radar: (chuckles) Oh, ya don't huh? How's your generator? Is Klinger gonna find you one? If things got tough, and you were the one that was leavin', you'd be stayin'! Hawkeye: Don't bet on it. I'd be outta here so fast my shorts would have to catch the next plane! Radar: Oh, yeah yeah. I saw ya workin' in OR with your hurt finger. You'd stay! Hey, listen, I got responsibilities around here, just like you. Hawkeye: You've got responsibilities at home, you jackass! Radar: Well how about if I wanna make up my own mind? I'm no kid anymore, ya know! I've been around. Hawkeye: Oh, excuse me, Mr. Globetrotter ... Why bless my soul, Mrs. O'Reilly's little boy is a big man now. I guess you've outgrown all that other stuff, huh? Ottumwa, the farm - your mother - Ah! Your mother! Have you outgrown your responsibility to her? Radar: Listen, how I take care of my mom is my business. You said it yourself, Hawkeye. Nobody should tell somebody else how to run their life!

    • Radar: (last line of series) I'm ready. Let's go!

    • (as Radar prepares to leave)
Col. Potter: Well, Radar, I guess we can take it from here.
Radar: Yes, sir, I guess you can.
Col. Potter: (choking up) It's not exactly the way I wanted to say goodbye, Radar.
      Radar: Me neither, sir.
Col. Potter: Godspeed, son! (they hug)

    Notes (6)

    • Ken Levine and David Isaacs received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.

    • At the end of this episode, Radar leaves his beloved teddy bear on Hawkeye's cot. The next time it appears is in the next to last episode, "As Time Goes By", when it is buried in the time capsule along with one of Klinger's dresses, a bottle of brandy and one of Henry Blake's old fishing lures.

    • Although Klinger initially struggles with getting a generator for the camp, we get a glimpse of his negotiating skills as he eventually gets one. Klinger would continue to have his problems (note "Period of Adjustment"), but he would grow into the job.

    • A melancholy cornet rendition of "Suicide Is Painless" is heard as "Good-Bye Radar (Part 2)"'s closing tag credits flash. This same rendition can also be heard at the end of Episode #S617, "Yessir, That's Our Baby" (Dec. 31, 1979) and #S612, "Dreams" (Feb. 18, 1980).

    • This is Radar's final appearance in the series, as he heads home to Iowa to take over the running of the family farm. However, Gary Burghoff reprised the role in two episodes of AfterMASH and in the pilot episode of W*A*L*T*E*R.

    Trivia (2)

    • Towards the end, when Hawkeye salutes Radar from the O.R., his hurt finger on that hand has somehow healed. But, when the O.R. session is over and he's walking back to the Swamp, the bandage is back on.

    • After Margaret plants a kiss on Radar in Post-Op, he exclaims,"Wow, hot lips!" This is the final mention or reference of Margaret's old nickname of "Hot Lips" of the series.
