  • Well, at least you don't have to come up with a plot.

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (3)

    • (Hawkeye and Winchester are playing chess. Hawkeye makes a move.) Winchester: Ah, the Yankakovich gambit! Hawkeye: Oh, yeah? Winchester: Yankakovich perfected the strategy of making the most moronic move possible in order to lull his opponent. Well, I'm not gonna fall for it. (makes a move) Hawkeye: (disappointed) Perhaps I should have tried the Jesse Owens gambit and run to Berlin.

    • Corpsman: Did you finish your will? Hawkeye: All except my best friend. How did you know it was my will? Corpsman: I've seen a lot of those written here.

    • Hawkeye: To Erin Hunnicutt, I leave a list of all the young men your daddy took care of while he was in Korea. Many of them have him to thank for being alive today. I want you to understand why he had to be away from you those first years of your life. I hope I have the chance to give you this list in person, but around here you never know.

    Notes (1)

    • Alan Alda received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series.

    Trivia (3)

    • Hawkeye leaves Major Winchester his bathrobe, saying "Purple is the color of royalty." However, the bathrobe Hawkeye usually wears is RED, not purple.

    • BJ realises Hawkeye is still alive when he comes across a patient with vertical mattress stitches using white cotton sutures. This is a little baffling as a positive id. Vertical mattress stitching is the most common type of all stitches and white cotton was generally used when nothing else was available: pretty likely at a shelled Battalion Aid station.

    • Hawkeye's trademark surgery is vertical mattress stitches with white cotton sutures

    Allusions (1)

    • The title is a parody of the phrase "Where there's a will, there's a way."
