  • show Description
  • Little Bear is the story of, what else, than a little bear (voice of Kristin Fairlie). He has many adventures with all his friends, including Duck, Cat, Owl, Hen, Emily, Emily's doll - Lucy, No Feet the Snake, Mitzi the monkey and Tutu the Dog! Little Bear is always getting into trouble and adventure! He has emotional feelings - he is sad, bold, mad, etc. The show is a nice way to teach children about feelings of life. It will give them courage, pride, honor and more in their life. For nearly the last decade this delightful show has entertained children of all ages including their parents. This animated series is based on the popular children's books illustrated by Maurice Sendak and written by Else Holmelund Minarik. Little Bear is about the spirited adventures of a curious young cub and his animal friends. Written from a child's point of view, the series celebrates the playful and sometimes enchanted aspects of the everyday activities and important moments in a pre-schooler's life. Though often rooted in the everyday, other stories are based on elements of Little Bear's imagination. At times, Little Bear may be seen flying, or even exploring the moon. Each episode consists of 3 seven-and-a-half minute stories. Each story follows an adventure, a game or an act of imagination in Little Bear's day. Little Bear once aired on Nick Jr. in the United States. You can now catch it twice daily on Noggin. Morning timeslots tend to vary, but the afternoon timeslot has remained the same --- 5:30 P.M. eastern.moreless

    • Little Bear: Moon food. This looks like a good lunch for a little bear.

    • Little Bear: (echoing) Everything's so strange. I must be on the moon! Note: The moon looks a lot like the Earth.

    • Little Bear: Maybe some birds fly to the moon and maybe I can fly like a bird. Mother Bear: And maybe you're a little, fat bearcub with no wings and no feathers. Maybe if you jump up, you'll come down very fast, with a big plop. Little Bear: Maybe... but maybe not. I'm going now. Just look for me up in the sky. Mother Bear: Be back for lunch!

    • Mother Bear: Boo! Little Bear: Oh. I found you! Mother Bear: No, I found you.

    • Duck: I found you, Frog. Frog: You can't find what isn't lost.

    • Little Bear: I'm still cold. Mother Bear: My Little Bear, you have a coat, you have a hat, you have snow pants. Do you want a fur coat too? Little Bear: Yes. I want a fur coat too. Mother Bear: All right, Little Bear. Give me your hat. Give me your coat. Now the snow pants. There. Little Bear: My own fur coat. (giggles)

    • Little Bear: I want something to wear in the snow. Mother Bear: Ah. All right. Close your eyes and I'll make you something to put on. Little Bear: (closes eyes and imitates sewing machine) What are you making for me, Mother Bear? Mother Bear: No peeking.

    • Cat: Is it chicken soup? Hen: Bawk!

    Notes (24)

    • Neena Beber is the writer for all three stories.

    • The three stories in this episode, along with "Gone Fishing" from the second episode are all available on the "Meet Little Bear" VHS release. This VHS includes a brief interview with Maurice Sendak.

    • Three-part story arc, all stories written by Nancy Barr.

    • The close-captioning on "Little Bear's Band" can be described as brutally honest. When Little Bear and his friends first start playing, it describes their music as "off-key and off-beat." When they try again, a short while later, it states "they resume, still awful." It does pay them due respect at the end of the episode, though, describing them as "playing very well."

    • Peter Parnell is the writer for all three stories. Although they are not strongly tied to one particular story arc, there is some connection between what happens in each.

    • Suzanne Collins is the writer for the first two stories, while James Still was the writer for the third. Elements of the third story were providing by Else Holmelund Minarik.

    • "Between Friends" contains several flashback scenes involving Little Bear and Emily from past stories.

    • James Still is the writer for the first two stories, while Betty Quan is the writer for the third. Else Holmelund Minarik contributed story material to the third story.

    Trivia (20)

    • The order of the stories between this episode and this episode has been changed on Noggin. Although "Up All Night / A Flu / Exploring" is what appears in schedule listings, "Up All Night / Little Bear's Bath / Father Bear Comes Home" is what actually airs. This effectively makes the episode into three part arc about Little Bear's anticipation of Father Bear returning and his finally coming home.

    • Little Bear gets into the bath tub covered in mud but after he washes it off the water in the tub is crystal clear when it should be a little brown from the mud.

    • When "Duck, Baby-Sitter" was released on "The World Of Little Bear" VHS, the scene at the end of the story where Little Bear agrees with Emily that they like baby animals and the rest of the episode was removed.

    • When Little Bear cuts the cake, he is beginning to cut it, in the next shot when the camera fades to a bird's-eye view of everyone at the table, the cake has no cuts in it. Then in the next shot, the cake has already been cut up.

    • In "Bigger Little Bear," Little Bear imagines becoming taller, and grows so big that his head hits the ceiling of the house. However, when he leaves the house, he's taller than the house itself.

    • when cat is walking on Bigger Little Bear the fur on Bigger Little Bear's lower jaw is the same color as his snout and his belly when it should be the color of the rest of his body

    • The cast of Little Red Riding Hood: Emily: Red Riding Hood Little Bear: The huntsman Cat: The wolf Granny: The Grandma Duck: The duck guarding Grandma's house.

    • Little Bear is accompanied by Emily and Duck on his raft. Hen, Cat and Owl choose to race him. Cat refuses to join them on the raft because he knows how to swim, but doesn't like to. Hen declines because she doesn't know how to swim. Owl is comfortable where he is, but can't resist the idea of a race.
