    • Each episode has some 33 minutes of music, way more than most dramas.

    • According to Barney Curnow, VFX supervisor from The Mill, background shots are made so then magical creatures can be put into them later. They use a shiny ball for lighting purposes whenever there's 3D CGI as it reflects the whole environment and so they make sure that the creature they put in that environment is lit exactly as it should be as if it was in the frame when the background shots were filmed.

    • Johnny Capps: Julian [Murphy] and I always wanted to work with him but he's always been busy doing the Harry Potter films. Harry Potter is a series of 7 novels by British author J. K. Rowling. The books depict the adventures of an adolescent wizard called Harry Potter and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, all of them students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They have adapted for the big screen.

    • Will Cohen: The other big show we work on is Doctor Who. Doctor Who is a British sci-fi show that features the adventures of a mysterious time-traveller known as "the Doctor" who uses what appears to be the exterior of a blue 19950's police box to travel through time, face various foes and right some wrongs.

    • Will Cohen: The Mill is a visual effects house and post production house. It's won an Oscar for its work in Gladiator in 2001. Gladiator is a 2000 epic movie directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe. It won five Oscars including Best Picture.

    • Pudsey. A yellow teddy bear with a bandaged eye called Pudsey is the mascot of Children in Need, a charity working in the UK raising money for children aged18 and under with physical, mental, or sensory disabilities, psychological or behavioural disorders; those living in neglect and deprivation situations or suffering any kind of abuse.

    • The Great Dragon: Arthur is the once and future king who will unite the land of Albion. 'The Once And Future King' is a title often ascribed to Arthur, taken from the supposed inscription over his grave HIC IACET ARTORIVS REX QVONDAM REXQVE FVTVRVS (Here lies Arthur, the once and future king). It is also the title of an Arthurian fantasy novel written by T.H. White published in 1958.

    • Arthur: Before the feast of Beltane. Beltane is one of the earth festivals within the year, celebrated on May 1. The Celts saw it as the beginning of summer. Wiccans and pagans see Beltane as one of the eight sabbats (the solar holidays which make up the wheel of the year).

    • Gaius: A cockatrice. It guards the forest. Its venom is potent. A single drop would mean certain death. A cockatrice is a creature from myth and legend, supposed to resemble a large rooster with the tail of a lizard. Similar to a basilisk, the difference between the two creatures is that the cockatrice has wings. According to a twelfth-century text, the cockatrice is born from a chicken egg that has been incubated by a toad or a snake. The cockatrice in this episode seems to resemble more closely a basilisk, which is described as 'a huge multi-limbed lizard'.

    • The Poisoned Chalice Not only does the title refer to the actual chalice used by Nimueh to poison Merlin, it also refers to a thing or situation which- upon first receiving it- appears good but is later revealed to be bad (Nimueh seems good when she is in the guise of the maid Cara but turns out to be evil).
