  • A thief gets killed with a pitchfork, and the villagers of Midsomer Mallow worry that the killing may undermine their chances of a prize in this year's Perfect Village competition. Things clearly take a turn for the worse when two of the competition judges are the next to be murdered.

    • The murder victims: 1. Peter Drinkwater - impaled on pitchfork 2. Rosemary Furman - poisoned 3. Samantha Johnston - stabbed 4. Bella de Vere - suffocated with pillow NB - the historical murder of Nanny Foster is also featured - she was stabbed with a kitchen knife.

    • The location used for Edward Allardice's house was Chenies Manor, Buckinghamshire. The village of Haddenham, Buckinghamshire was used as the location for 'Little Kirkbridge'.

    Trivia (3)

    • The 5 deaths in this episode (one is alluded to from the past) brings the total for the series to date to 45.

    • Goof: When Barnaby is watching the dead victim Peter Drinkwater (Orlando Bloom), the eye lids moves.

    • When the gardening expert is shown filming his TV show, the crew in the background are actually the real Midsomer Murders production crew, including the director hunching over his monitor.
