  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (5)

    • Stottlemeyer: (becoming annoyed from hearing Disher's song to honor Monk) Randy, he's not dead! We faked it. Monk jumped off the pier. He was wearing a bulletproof vest. Disher: He's alive!? He's alive. Stottlemeyer: Yep, he's in hiding till we figure out what the hell's going on. Disher: I can't believe it! Stottlemeyer: You okay? Disher: Yeah, I'm thrilled. Yeah, yeah, I just... Stottlemeyer: You look disappointed. Disher: Th-this is the best song I ever wrote. Stottlemeyer: Well, save it. It's a great song. He's going to die one day. Disher: Oh, yeah. You're not gonna shoot him. Stottlemeyer: You never know.

    • Monk: Hey, thanks. Thanks for killing me. Stottlemeyer: That's what friends are for.

    • Stottlemeyer: Not too shabby for someone who can't swim. Monk: I was highly motivated.

    • Monk: (about Dale the Whale) If he's thinking of squeezing through the bars, he's got 400 pounds to go.

    • Dale: Are you having fun? Monk: No, but it's as close as I can ever get.

    Notes (2)

    • Ray Porter is the third actor in the series to play Dale the Whale. Previously he was played by Adam Arkin (in "Mr. Monk Meets Dale the Whale") and Tim Curry (in "Mr. Monk Goes to Jail").

    Trivia (3)

    • Riverton, California is depicted as a small town. There is a place in California along U.S. Highway 50 called Riverton, but it is merely a very small unincorporated community.

    • When Disher plays his commemorative song before Stottlemeyer breaks down and tells him the truth, it's clear that his left hand is almost entirely motionless when he should be fingering the guitar's neck, despite the fact that he plays different chords.

    • It was foolish of Stottlemeyer to disclose his secret to Natalie in a room with a two-way mirror and speaker.

    Allusions (1)

    • Mover: They call him the "Carwash Columbo."
Referencing the famed TV detective played by Peter Falk, known for his quirky mannerisms, bulldogged determination, and keen deductive eye.
