    • Narrator: In the end, the creature of Snowgrove Lake may really roam the forests of Canada. Whether this creature is a genetically mutated man or a yet to be discovered animal, the Monster Quest search will return to Snowgrove Lake for a more extensive search. A search for a legend that might finally step our from the dark shadows and into the light of reality.

    • Narrator: A thousand feet below the surface the search is on for a monster, for a giant sized squid as big as a ship. A risky plan that’s never been tried before. The danger is real, and the results could make history.

    • Narrator: In myth and legend they’ve existed for centuries, history suggests a link between these flying monsters and real creatures. But do giant birds exist today? Science explores the possibility on a modern day quest to examine the evidence.

    • Narrator: In recent decades North America has been captivated and baffled by stories of giant bird sightings. But man’s fascination with these creatures whether real or mythic is nothing new. Since ancient times authors have written about giant birds, some of them man eater: two stories in tales from The Arabian Nights relate Sinbad’s encounters with the Roc, a massive bird said to be capable of carrying off elephants, Hercules tangled with, and conquered man eaters known as the Stymphalian birds, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s fantasy adventure novel The Lost World. Different cultures, different eras, it suggest mankind has a fear of things that fly. But why?

    Notes (3)

    • This episode was not originally part of MonsterQuest. It was produced in 2005 as part of History Channel's usual complaining of historical innacuarcies in films and an attempt to latch onto Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005). It was later added to Decoding the Past. So this airing makes it the third series Giganto has been involved with.

    • This episode used some material from History's special Vampire Secrets.

    • One of the clips of feral dogs is misleading. When the pitbull attacks the Animal Control officer, the dog was actually released by its owner to attack the officer who came for the dog because the dog had been attacking others in the neighborhood.

    Trivia (2)

    • The engraving of a girl being carried off by and eagle (shown twice in this episode) is from Felix A. Pouchet's The Universe [1868], and is of another eagle abduction supposedly ocurring in the French Alps in 1838: "A little girl, five years old, called Marie Delex, was playing with one of her companions on a mossy slope of the mountain, when all at once an eagle swooped down upon her and carried her away in spite of the cries and presence of her young friend. Some peasants, hearing the screams, hastened to the spot but sought in vain for the child, for they found nothing but one of her shoes on the edge of a precipice. The child was not carried to the eagle's nest, where only two eaglets were seen surrounded by heaps of goat and sheep bones. It was not until two months later that a shepherd discovered the corpse of Marie Delex, frightfully mutilated, and lying upon a rock half a league from where she had been borne off."

    • The location "Kershocktin, OH", which was displayed on the screen as the location of a video possibly featuring the Grassman, does not exist, and is most likely a mangling of the town "Coshocton". Also, In the opening sequence while showing scenes from Ohio, a scene featuring the skyline of Detroit, Michigan is depicted.
